German interpreter Grade AD5 European Commission

Pending the organisation of an open competition, the Commission is organising a selection procedure to fill one administrator post (German language interpreter level AD5) within the Directorate General for Interpretation, Directorate A, Language Unit SCIC/A/5.
1. NATURE OF DUTIES
The successful candidate(s) will:
  • provide high-quality interpretation in meetings organised by the Commission or other institutions or agencies for which it provides interpretation (Council of the EU, Committee of the Regions, European Economic and Social Committee).
  • provide expert advice to universities organising courses in interpretation with a view to providing a source of recruitment for future vacancies.
  • carry out organisational and coordination tasks.
2. TYPE AND DURATION OF CONTRACT
The successful candidate(s) at AD5 level may be offered a temporary contract under point (a) of Article 2 of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union (CEOS), in accordance with the Commission Decision of 28 April 2004 on a new policy for the engagement and employment of temporary staff1.
The duration may not exceed four years, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of two years.
The duration of the contract will also take account of the relevant provisions in the Commission Decision of 28 April 2004 on the maximum duration of recourse to nonpermanent staff (six years over a twelve-year period)2 .
It should, however, be noted that candidates who are successful in this selection procedure will only be recruited if they have passed an accreditation test at the level
required by the EU institutions.

3. ADMISSION CONDITIONS
3.1. General conditions
Candidates must satisfy the requirements set out in Article 12 of the CEOS3, which include being a national of a Member State of the European Union.

3.2. Specific conditions
3.2.1. Qualifications
Candidates must have:
1) successfully completed training as a conference interpreter which corresponds to completed university studies of at least four years attested by a diploma
or
2) a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma AND successfully completed training as a conference interpreter and obtained the relevant qualification attested by a diploma or certificate,
or
3) a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma AND have one year’s proven experience working as a conference interpreter.
3.2.2. Experience
By the deadline for submission of applications, and in addition to the qualifications required above, candidates must have at least two years of university level professional experience acquired after obtaining the diploma required under 3.2.1.
This experience must include at least 100 days of conference interpreting within international organisations, as of the date that the conditions under point 3.2.1 have been met.
3.2.3. Languages
Candidates must have the German language as an "active" language i.e. their main language into which they work from their other working languages ("passive" languages) and, to take account of operational needs, at least two "passive" languages, of which one must be English and the other Romanian.
