To add greater flexibility to its work BIG is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to help raise several million Euro annually for strategically important programmes.

The position
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Head of Development is a full-time position charged with providing hands on leadership for the planning, direction and executing of all day to day development related activities, including meeting facilitation and logistics, donor liaising, research, office organisation, general administration and system maintenance.

Primary Responsibilities
• Championing a vision for international, regional and local fundraising success across the organisation
• Planning, developing and executing individual, corporate and foundation cultivation strategies
• Implementing an annual events calendar that ensures greatest return from resources and volunteer time
• Serving as a member of BIG’s management team and working collaboratively with other unit heads
• Actively carrying out a full spectrum of tasks and motivating staff as the Development Unit gradually grows
• Providing leadership, direction, professional development, training, and targets for team members
• Supporting the executive leadership in their duties and in particular to manage networking opportunities
• Engaging with the donor population and managing a portfolio of significant prospective donors
• Producing and complying with all development policies and procedures to protect BIG’s positive reputation
• Reporting on cash flow, financial trends, and budgets, conforming to all audit obligations and legal requirements

Requirements
• Effective leader with the ability to encourage strong team performance and values
• Highly motivated strategic thinker with positive attitude and strong knowledge of fundraising practices
• Aptitude for quickly relating implications of organisation activities to development opportunities
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to persuasively convey a message
• Knowledge of evolving trends in major giving and professional relationships in Europe’s philanthropic networks
• Desire to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• 7+ years’ full time progressive experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in the area of medical research
• Firsthand experience of writing and editing proposals both independently and as part of a team
• Proven track record of cultivation, solicitation, closing and stewarding seven-figure donations
• Native-like spoken and written English; preferably also fluent in French and Flemish
• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a topic linked to fundraising and a CFRE or equivalent qualification
Environmental Demands
• Evening/weekend work is often required
• Frequent travel
