Objectives

The African Development Bank Group - Southern Africa Resource Center (SARC) Office in Pretoria, covers 12 Countries and the SADC Secretariat. The Resource Center was established to strengthen dialogue between the Bank and the Bank’s Regional Member Countries (RMCs) in Southern Africa, development partners, the private sector, and the civil society. The dialogue is expected to enhance and foster the design of the Bank’s development policies and programs, as well as the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the development policies and poverty reduction strategies of the RMCs.

SARC also seeks to assist and facilitate the execution of the core operational functions of the Bank Group in identifying, preparing, appraising and implementing projects and programs in the RMCs, and follow-up with a view to enhancing portfolio quality, promotion of participatory approaches, alignment with countries and regional priorities and enhancing impacts.

SARC invites applications from qualified candidates to fill in the vacant position of Secretary at the SARC in Pretoria, South Africa.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Regional Director, the Secretary will:

  • Provide general secretarial assistance to the Office and visiting Bank missions,
  • Provide administrative support to staff and assist in preparation and logistical planning of Team and Office events.
  • Draft, edit, proofread, format and finalize documents and presentations to ensure quality of documents before signature or approval.
  • Support office management and prepare minutes of meetings.
  • Maintain office records and reference files on Bank Group operations.
  • Perform any other office management duties as required.

Selection Criteria

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree or its university equivalent in Business Administration or other related field; or Matric Certificate or Advanced Level Certificate plus four (4) years further study in professional secretarial and office management qualifications.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience.
  • A good track record in secretarial and office management.
  • Ability to organize data and information retrieval systems.
  • Good filling and organizational skills, with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate and write effectively in English and/or French, with a good knowledge of the other language.
  • Competence in the use of Bank standard software (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of SAP is desirable.
