Manager, Program Design Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

Manager, Program Design

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 610 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children. Nutrition products are as varied as fortified cooking oil and flour in Africa, soy sauce in China and biscuits in India, as well as specialized products for infant and young child nutrition, and interventions to protect the most vulnerable affected by emergencies or chronic illness.
GAIN is looking for a Program Design Manager to assist the organization in designing programs that are clearly aligned to deliver the highest potential impact on malnutrition in the most effective and cost-efficient manner.
GAIN’s approach relies on both innovation and partnership and GAIN often works at the intersection of the public and private sectors, and has substantive relationships with major bilateral and multilateral donors, and leading companies. This means that the design of its projects is often complex and involving many elements and stakeholders. To play a catalytic role to drive impact at scale it is important that GAIN’s project design is of high quality and also robust.
This role plays a crucial part in both managing and supporting GAIN’s process to design projects for delivery. It will work closely with GAIN’s programmatic (Initiative Leads) and technical leads as part of and often leading teams responsible for building the portfolio of projects that will ultimately deliver the large scale impact that GAIN is trying to deliver. We are seeking candidates with:
  • At least seven years of experience in developing projects, preferably at international level in private foundations, international NGOs, government bodies or consulting organizations. Experience within International development is a must.
  • Understanding of major donor and foundations approaches to project design and delivery
  • Experience in delivering nutrition or food fortification programs or other public health programs in the region - an asset.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and matrix structure - critical.
  • Experience building and leading teams within a start up environment
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in public health, economics, business administration, or a suitable equivalent.
