Media and Communications Officer Amnesty International Ukraine

Competitive salary: 10,500 – 12,000 UAH

Torture and ill-treatment. Rampant criminality in the police. A justice system under threat. These are just some of the reasons why Ukraine is an increasing area of focus for Amnesty International. You’ll not only be able to make this new role in our growing team your own; you’ll also have real influence on our work in this country.
About the role
To make a difference we need to make our voice heard. Your innovative, effective media and PR strategy, plus the media coverage it generates, will be key to that. You’ll get our message across through everything from our website to social networks and blogs; and from TV and radio to traditional press. At the same time, you’ll constantly monitor our media presence and keep media channels up to date. It means working closely with our Campaign Coordinator and the International Secretariat as well as building strong relationships with journalists. But whether you’re writing an impactful press release or updating our Facebook page, organising a media event or overseeing the work of volunteers, you’ll make sure our communications are always consistent, effective and impactful.
About you
You’ll have already proven your worth as a journalist or in PR, ideally in the human rights arena. What’s more, you’ll have in-depth knowledge of Ukraine’s regional and national media along with established contacts at key publications and broadcast outlets. And, of course, your communication and writing skills – across a wide range of channels – will be excellent. On top of that, you’ll bring us experience of organising successful press conferences, briefings and seminars plus a good understanding of emerging media trends. Fluency in Ukrainian, Russian and English is essential.
About us
Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. Already our network of over three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
Closing date: 21st July 2012.
