The BBC Press Office is the epicentre of media management for the whole corporation in the UK and the world. A streamlined team, we have links in to every part of the BBC and as such we are often the first to spot, manage and engage with a story.

The Press Office manages communications for the BBC’s corporate divisions including HR, Finance and the BBC’s property portfolio. It also manages major reputational issues. It works alongside, but is separate to the publicity teams who promote the BBC’s services and programmes.

Role

You will work as part of a team of Press Officers to provide an efficient and comprehensive information service to the media and the BBC, every day of the week.

You will support the Media Relations Managers and the Chief Press Office in their handling of key corporate announcements and issues, from responding to direct enquiries from the media, to writing press releases, to maintaining the Press Office information and storage systems. Press Officers also research topics and prepare briefing documents for internal distribution to senior management level.

Press Officers work on a rota basis, including evening and weekend work

Requirements

You will bring experience in journalism or working in the Press Office of a large organization, along with a good understanding of the media environment and the news gathering process.

An understanding of the BBC’s organisational structure, policies and editorial principles would be advantageous, as well as a strong interest in the broadcasting industry as a whole.
Excellent IT skills, with the ability to adapt to new IT systems is a must, as is a high level of interpersonal skills, sufficient to enable you to establish and maintain credibility and effective working relationships with a wide range of contacts, such as journalists, senior managers, broadcasters and editorial staff.
