CFA Institute Director, Capital Markets Policy-EMEA


The Director, Capital Markets Policy – EMEA supports the activities of the CFA Institute’s Standards & Financial Market Integrity (SFMI) division in the EMEA region. This position works with the SFMI team in EMEA to develop and broadcast capital markets policy within the region and represent the interests of CFA Institute members on capital markets issues, including corporate disclosure positions, policies, and standards, before EU institutions and other stakeholders. The Director, Capital Markets Policy – EMEA position requires the ability to conduct research, draft consultation responses, to write papers and articles on matters concerning the capital markets. The position will also be expected to present before regulators and other stakeholders, either individually, within small groups or larger public venues and support related public awareness activities.
The position will be based in Brussels and report to the Head, SFMI – EMEA in London.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible and accountable for conducting and managing research projects, drafting consultation responses, research papers and articles on Capital Markets issues
  • Supporting the public awareness of CFA Institute, through the preparation of press releases and interviews with the media on Capital Markets issues
  • Closely collaborate with the SFMI team in EMEA and the Capital Markets Policy Group
  • Develop and sustain CFA Institute Capital Markets Policy in the region
  • Deliver inspiring presentations as required to advance the CFA Institute mission before Regulators, Legislators, Society Leaders, Members and other related stakeholders
  • Execute various projects and initiatives in the region as directed by the Head, SFMI – EMEA, including the work of the Capital Market Policy arena, in proposing policies and positions
  • Develop and analyze capital markets project ideas, conduct of research, development of well-articulated arguments and policy papers and standards
  • Evaluate ideas proposed by the Chair, Advisory Council, Executive Director, Capital Markets Policy Group staff, committee volunteers, and CFA Institute members and member societies
  • Conduct research and write papers on region’s specific issues that will help markets to better understand and appreciate the state of corporate governance and ethical practices and challenges in the region
  • Contribute to the development of products and business lines to educate, train and promote CFA Institute standard
  • Maintain and improve relationships with constituents that are essential to the CFA Institute operations in the region
  • Communicate and build relationships with regulators, legislators and other stakeholders in the region to exchange information and ideas
  • Communicate with societies and other staff members of the department on CFA Institute initiatives
  • Promulgate Capital Markets Policy Group corporate disclosure positions, policies, and standards, and coordinate and support related public awareness activities
  • Identify projects and ways to promote higher ethical standards in the region
  • Represent, as needed the policies and positions of CFA Institute to standard setters, regulators, and other market organizations, such as IOSCO, EU and French regulatory and legislative institutions
  • Educate the investing public and our members on our code of ethics
  • Work with Public Awareness group on media and press releases
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably related to finance, economics, or law
  • Familiarity with policy making in the EU. Knowledge of EU directives governing capital markets such as MiFID, UCITS, and MAD desirable
  • At least seven years of business and/or practitioner experience
  • At least three years of relevant experience in the capital markets, either as a practitioner or in policy development
  • CFA charter preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially excellent persuasive writing skills
  • Language skills – fluent in English; additional languages would be desired (preferrably German)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to quickly adjust to new global locations and conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel comfortably
  • Energy to put in the hours of concentrated work necessary to achieve goals while maintaining a positive attitude
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Travel will be approximately 10% of the time
