Communications Specialist, Maple Cross

1.Job Purpose
 
 
An experienced communications professional is required for a six to nine month placement to provide both internal and external communications for specific business areas within Skanska UK. The individual will play a key role in the development of an internal communications and employee engagement strategy, as well delivering both print and online communications material. In addition, the individual will develop and apply brand guidelines and contribute to media relations and other external communications activities. Strong writing skills are a pre-requisite for this role.

  • Develops and leads the implementation of communications strategies and plans for specific business areas
  • Provides content for – and contributes to the development of – the intranet, internet and social media activities
  • Develops and provides content for employee newsletters and external facing publications
  • Proactively manages the relationship for targeted media contacts, creating press releases and identifying media opportunities
  • Event management –  both internal and external
  • Develops brand guidelines and ensures they are followed in all communications
  • Works with the in-house creative services team to oversee delivery of communications material
  • Develops robust relationships with senior managers and within key business areas

4.Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications Required
 
 
The successful candidate will have direct experience of working within an in-house communications function or communications agency. A relevant degree or equivalent in marketing, public relations or a writing-based discipline is an advantage. The individual will need to have the following skills:
 
  • Ability to undertake and oversee the three broad requirements for a good communications manager:
-  the insight and experience to be able to ‘unpack’ a problem or challenge and break it down into its constituent parts
-  the ideas needed to develop a creative solution
-  the appropriate project management skills to ensure successful product/service delivery
  • Experience of developing and implementing strategies for change communications
  • Ability to write in a well-structured, purposeful manner for a wide range of media, including the company magazine, intranet and video scripts
  • Outgoing and enthusiastic relationship builder, well respected by peers and managers
  • A can-do, positive attitude, willing to go the extra mile
  • Ability to inspire respect and trust from senior managers
  • Understands and provides guidance on internal communications techniques and tools
  • Understands the principles associated with activities such as graphic design, web design, print production and management, video production, media relations, events and crisis management
  • Has the ability to lead and deliver a number of projects running concurrently
  • Calm under pressure – able to manage a project team effectively, helping team members cope with external pressures and stressful influences
  • Flexible – able to quickly adapt and respond to new business priorities
