Events and Business Development Manager Global Wind Energy Council


Job purpose
The Events and Business Development Manager will run GWEC events and membership initiatives, and leverage GWEC activities and publications to ensure that they support GWEC’s core mission.
Events
  •  Manage the organisation of large international industry conferences and exhibitions in different parts of the world (India, Brazil, China, Mexico, South Africa, Korea)
  •  Create high quality conference programmes and recruit internationally recognised speakers
  •  Work with event partners to professionalise and internationalise all aspects of the event, including the conference programme, marketing, exhibition and sponsorship sales
  •  Add innovation and excellence to all aspects of the events programme
  •  Develop international marketing strategy for events, including media partnerships, advertising and media relations
Membership
  •  Identify and recruit new members
  •  Actively work with existing members to ensure that their needs are being met
  •  Leverage GWEC activities to benefit members
  •  Effectively communicate GWEC membership benefits via internal and external communications channels
Business Development
  •  Identify new sources of revenue for the association from existing and new stakeholders
  •  Take on public speaking engagements in place of the Secretary General
  •  Initiate and manage proposals for project funding
Education
  •  University degree, preferably in Economics or International Business
Experience
  •  Five years relevant experience in a marketing or business development role in the renewable energy sector, preferably from a membership-based organisation.
  •  Experience developing, planning and onsite execution of large exhibitions (400 plus exhibitors), conferences and bespoke events.
  •  International working experience is a must.
Personal skills
  •  Very organised and a keen eye for detail under pressure
  •  Hands-on attitude to all aspects of event management
  •  Excellent communication and writing/editing skills in English (mother tongue or equivalent)
  •  International  events and business development experience
  •  Ability to research, evaluate, negotiate, establish and maintain relationships with members, partners and speakers
  •  Enthusiastic personality and positive mindset, with a commitment to sustainable energy
  •  Prior experience in an international association would be an asset; intercultural understanding and flexibility is a must
 Prepared to travel internationally – 25%
Languages
  •  Outstanding written and spoken English
  •  Other languages (especially  Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and/or Mandarin) are an asset to deal with national media and events partners
