SEI has a growing international research portfolio in the fields of energy systems, climate change policy and global development. Through our programme we are supporting governments and multilateral agencies, development banks and other high level change agents around the world. We now need to expand our team. We are recruiting a Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow in Economics and policy analysis with strong skills in energy and climate issues. The new position presents an opportunity to join a leading research institute and contribute to the management of a growing dynamic research environment, with flexibility to follow one’s own interests. The level of the position will be determined based on the qualification of the selected candidate.

The successful candidate will:
- Strengthen SEI’s global economics and policy analysis capacity
- Lead SEI’s engagement in specific strategic policy support processes related to climate change, energy systems and global development.
- Contribute to project, programme and strategy development world wide
Specific responsibilities include:
- Plan, develop and implement innovative research projects addressing policies and actions to towards low carbon / sustainable development.
- Maintain and build relationships with funders and partners; find and secure new funding opportunities.
- Manage, mentor, and collaborate with staff researchers, provide regular guidance and feedback to colleagues across SEI.
- Explore joint research opportunities and collaborate with colleagues at other SEI centres.
- Review and manage project outputs from the research team, including publications and other materials to ensure they meet the project objectives and SEI quality standards.
- Present research results externally and raise the profile of SEI research
Requirements
The applicant should possess outstanding research, leadership, management, organizational, interpersonal, and networking abilities. She/he should have proven interdisciplinary research experience and ability to work with various stakeholders. The applicant should demonstrate an understanding of both development and environment in line with the SEI mission and be able to conduct independent analysis and reflect critically on conventional economic reasoning and debate.

Key qualifications
- PhD or equivalent research experience in Economics or other relevant field and 5 years of relevant work experience.
- In-depth documented knowledge of energy systems development and climate change policy issues.
- Experience in international governmental policy processes.
- Experience applying quantitative analysis to policy applications and environmental economics accounting, including the use of modelling tools and interpretation of modelling results.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills for both technical and public audiences
- A strong record of research project design and management, securing external funding, and publications.
- Proven success in work relations with a wide range of partners, including research institutes, governments, and other non-profit organizations.
- Proven ability to write up and document research, lead analyses, act as lead author or significantly contribute to publications or project reports and participate in peer reviews
- Experience in working in international, multi-disciplinary research teams in policy environments, and with international partners
- Proven ability to engage in knowledge production towards high level policy making
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Desirable Qualifications
- Established network within governments, multilateral organizations, research institutes and non-profit organizations
- Knowledge about international development
- Knowledge about natural resources management
- Other language skills, Swedish and/or another European language
- Knowledge about European and Scandinavian Economic Affairs
