JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the overall management of Research and Development in Reproductive Health (RH). Responsibilities include managing the progress of research and development of RH products currently in the pipeline; identifying new research opportunities and development areas of interest within the Council’s mission to maintain the pipeline; planning and implementing the clinical work needed to advance products toward launch; creating and maintaining relationships with donors; overseeing medical launch and participating in pre-introduction preparations for products that are near approval; and maintaining oversight management of all RH staff at CBR.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Assist the Vice President, in the development of R&D strategic objectives that are in line with the RH program mission.
2.      Provide leadership in fundraising efforts including identifying, developing and maintaining key relationships with current and potential donors; successfully secure and maintain ongoing funding for RH activities at CBR.
3.      Initiate new research programs and lead the development of new research strategies for products in RH in accordance with strategic objectives.
4.      Provide oversight management for the basic research and drug discovery as well as product development in RH, including selection of candidates or devices to be given priority for further development.
5.      Ensure that the work and investigative strategies of all investigators in Reproductive Health R&D are in sync with tactical as well as strategic planning goals.
6.      Review evidence and assess the opportunities for progress on new leads for the development of contraceptive and other reproductive health technology by integrating the efforts of the Chair and members of the International Committee on Contraceptive Research (ICCR).
7.      Assure the execution of R&D projects within the preclinical and clinical units by working in concert with the Distinguished Scientist and Program Directors of the U54 Contraceptive research Center.
8.      Identify and recruit qualified new staff, provide guidance, supervision, and substantive leadership to RH staff and consultants.
9.      Develop the annual program plan and budget (“PPB”) for the RH program at CBR, and monitor implementation and expenditures.
10. Ensure compliance within the relevant regulatory and license matters for all Reproductive Health R&D areas by collaborating with Quality Assurance/Regulatory Affairs and the Corporate Affairs/Intellectual Asset Management team,
11. Foster capacity building and new product introduction by working in concert with Council country offices and with other programs of the Council on specific R&D projects.
12. Serve as Deputy as required for the program Vice President.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.      MD, MD/PhD and or PhD degree in clinical medicine and/or biomedical science with relevant training and expertise. Clinical protocol development, preclinical and trial experiences are desirable.
2.      Minimum 15 years of direct applicable experience with 5-10 years of R&D experience in the pharmaceutical industry with progressively senior roles in successful management and implementation of aspects, including, biomedical research, drug and clinical development, and product delivery
3.      Demonstrated ability to stimulate fundraising and secure funds for program activities.
4.      Demonstrated experience in managing scientists and clinical researchers, clinical and translational research and development work.
5.      Excellent diplomatic, representational, problem solving, management, and interpersonal skills.
6.      Demonstrated experience in capacity building.
7.      Excellent written and oral English-language communications skills; secondary fluency in French, Spanish or other language relevant to the Council’s presence in countries we serve is highly desirable.
8.      Willingness and ability to travel internationally as the work requires.
