Legal Intern (Part-Time), Office of the General Counsel & Secretary


REPORTING TO:   Patricia C. Vaughan, General Counsel & Secretary
 
LOCATION:   One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, New York, NY
 
ASSIGNMENT LENGTH:  Approximately three months (one semester), with possibility of extension based on mutual consent and availability of funds.
 
HOURS: Flexible schedule, approximately 15–20 hours per week.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
The Legal Intern will be under the direct supervision of the organization’s General Counsel and will be required to assist the General Counsel with a special project dealing with the application of the organization’s document retention policy, as well as conduct research, draft legal memoranda, and provide other assistance on a variety of legal projects as needed.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.     Conduct document reviews and application of document retention policy.
2.     Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda on a variety of topics affecting international nonprofit research organizations.
3.     Provide general assistance to the General Counsel as needed.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.     Requires currently enrolled second or third year law student and/or previous paralegal litigation experience.
2.     Experience and/or knowledge and ability to use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of the legal field.
3.     Research and writing skills, and the ability to communicate complex legal points in a precise manner. Candidate must express an interest in applying his/her skills in a not-for-profit, international environment.
