2. PURPOSE & PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES |
Purpose
To manage the delivery of a portfolio of projects within the Alliance to agreed timeline, cost schedule, quality and safety standards and risk profile that supports the Alliance operating to the highest standards of Safety, Health, Environmental, Security and Quality
Principal objectives
· Delivery of projects to the highest standard of safety in the Construction industry
· Ensure that the projects within the portfolio deliver gain for client and partners each year.
· Support the development of systems and resources to maximise commercial opportunity and value to the JV Partners and National Grid
· The optimisation identification and life cycle management of programme scope, cost, risk, schedule, resources and interfaces of all projects.
· Identification, creation, and support of optimal project teams and key resources.
· Ensure effective integration and management of the project development and delivery process inclusive of technical design, build, finance and programme management for projects.

3. ACCOUNTABLE FOR | Key decisions
· Informed decisions on the delivery of projects within the plan ensuring delivery to time, cost, quality and safety.
· Approval of the project costs and risks for each project..
· Resource allocation.
· Informed decisions on the risk intent in each project and the overall Construction programme including system integrity.
· Change/crisis management.

4. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE | Qualifications
· Degree level education or equivalent, preferably in engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience. Member of relevant professional body.
General Experience
· Extensive experience at a team leader level
· Demonstrated successful capability in:
o People and Programme management
o Financial management
o Change Management
o Commercial acumen
o Effective communication skills including the ability to make persuasive presentations to small and large audiences
o Strong negotiating and influencing skills
o Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organisation
· Track record of developing working relationships quickly and effectively
Specific experience required for this role
· Programme Management skills to a high level commensurate with a programme £75-£150m p.a.
· Extensive experience of management within a commercial project / programme management framework.
· Understanding of NG policies and guidance.
· Experience of presenting detailed programme appraisals, reviews and reports in a senior management forum.
· Provide support to Project Managers to meet their targets and create gain for partners and National Grid

5. TASKS
|
· Effectively create, identify and lead teams to develop, manage, delivery, and close an integrated programme plan and contingency actions for all area Alliance projects.
· Maintain optimum team membership to identify, integrate and manage project scope, cost, risk, and interfaces.
· Identifying key interactions and issues and providing creative solutions to improve overall efficient delivery of a group of projects.
· Ensure Safety, Health, Environment and Security (SHES) aspects of all schemes within sphere of responsibility are managed and focused to deliver quality asset solutions and continually improve performance ensuring adherence to company policy, aims and objectives.
· Provide and manage a programme integration plan (Alliance and Pan-Alliance) and identify critical programme milestones and risk to assist the Alliance and the overall NG / Programme offices.
· Satisfy governance and policy requirements to facilitate timely project sanction, delivery and closure.
· Challenge project teams to ensure innovative and efficient designs and delivery solutions.
General
· Coordinate all project development, design, programme, commercial and SHESQ aspects with relevant Alliance team members to successfully deliver the Alliance programme of work.
· Identify, develop and maintain a positive employee culture through effective communication processes and implementation of partner HR policies that encourage and reward appropriate behaviour and performance.
· Demonstrates championing, monitoring and continual improvement in meeting Alliance KPIs and in living Alliance values and in promoting positive SHE culture.
· Responsible for setting challenging targets and objectives through the development of a performance based team.
