VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Director of Preconstruction


Skanska USA Building Inc. is seeking a VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Director of Preconstruction.  The role encompasses a number of strategic tasks that facilitate the adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and related processes within the Preconstruction group. Experience in construction planning and estimating is essential. The qualified individual must be knowledgeable as to Autodesk products (including Revit) and model based estimating, as well as having had experience guiding process changes brought about by VDC / BIM implementation at the business level. This position will require the ability to travel throughout the US for up to 50% of the individual’s time.


Preferred Locations: Individual must be located in or be willing to relocate to one of Skanska’s Northeast Offices: Boston MA; New York City; Philadelphia PA

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Provide Leadership and Mentoring for integration of  VDC / BIM into the Preconstruction operations of Skanska USA Building
  • As part of the VDC Executive Team, participate to facilitate the change management necessary for the integration of VDC/BIM methods and processes
  • As part of the Preconstruction Senior Leadership Team (SLT) develop and promote the adoption of VDC/BIM methods and processes in Preconstruction
  • Assist in Business Development when requested  with regard to preparing the BIM / VDC portions of proposals and participating in interviews when appropriate
  • Oversee and support preparation of VDC Project Implementation Plans when requested

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or a related field from a four-year college, or equivalent experience in the building industry
  • Preference for a minimum of 6 years of related working experience beyond College Degrees.
  • Have management-level experience in VDC / BIM which should include direct experience in the successful management of process change.
  • Have 3+ years’ experience working in Preconstruction activities, some of which was directly involved in model-based quantification.
  • Experience with Timberline Estimating is desirable.
  • Must have intermediate to advanced skill levels with Autodesk Revit Architecture, Structure & MEP and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with other BIM tools such as Trimble Sketchup, ArchiCAD, Tekla Structures, and related tools are also encouraged.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel specifically)
  • Experience in software instruction preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
  • Is located or willing to relocate in the Northeast Corridor from Boston to Philadelphia and the ability to travel on a regular basis (up to 50% of their time)
