Job Summary

Cardno Emerging Markets USA, Ltd. (Cardno) is seeking an experienced Human Resources (HR) Generalist to join the HR team located in Arlington, VA.  The HR Generalist will works directly with the Human Resources Director in managing all employee related activities to include employee relations and benefits administration.
This is an opportunity to be a part of a team developing HR programs to support a growing and dynamic global organization. ​​​

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide guidance, support, and counsel to employees on defined employee relations issues, and escalate resolution to senior level personnel as appropriate. 
  • Identifies potential employee relations issues, reporting findings and recommends action. 
  • Assists in administering employee relations programs, policies, and procedures ensuring compliance with all legal regulations and their uniform application throughout the organization. 
  • Update employee files to document personnel actions and provide information for payroll and other uses. 
  • Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provides information to authorized persons. 
  • Complete Employee Status Change Form (ESCF) to reflect accurate employee status.
  • Process all employment verifications and unemployment information requests to include participation in hearings.
  • Handle benefit administration to include Health, Dental, FSA and 401K; conduct enrollment presentations and materials.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and exit interviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements

​​REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, Social or other Sciences, or Organization Development required with a minimum of five years’ experience in Human Resources in a small to medium sized, complex organization. 
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive employee relations issues with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, and familiarity with HR practices, processes and systems.
  • Must have strong negotiation skills, superior interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must have ability to and experience with simultaneously handling multiple projects under pressure, and working in an environment which requires flexibility, innovation, superb customer service skills, and organization. 
  • Must have experience delivering effective presentations and training material to a variety of audiences. 
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of employment law and regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Ability to understand and apply federal, state and local changes to and/or new regulations/laws pertaining to human resources.
  • Experience with leave administration, to include worker’s compensation, FMLA, Personal, etc.
  • Experience with STD, LTD and COBRA administration though a third party vendor. 
  • Extensive knowledge of employment law, federal and state laws as they relate to employment/HR practices.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of government contracting regulations helpful; familiarity with USAID a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of an HRIS, UltiPro or similar relational database preferred.
  • US work authorization required for this position.  No H1-B Visa sponsorship or transfers at this time.
  • Professional Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification is preferred.​
