ILO Director


The International Labour Organization (ILO) is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights, pursuing its founding mission that labour peace is essential to prosperity.

The primary goal of the ILO today is to promote opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work, in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. It is the only tripartite United Nations agency, bringing together representatives of governments, employers and workers.

The ILO invites interested parties to submit their expression of interest for the position of Director of its Social Security Department (SEC/SOC) (D2 level, Geneva Headquarters, Switzerland).

The Social Security Department (SEC/SOC) provides support to Member countries in the design, planning, extension and operation of social security measures to provide a basic income to all in need of such protection and comprehensive medical care. The Department assists ILO tripartite constituents, guided by relevant Conventions and Recommendations, to develop, strengthen and manage comprehensive social security systems that provide access to adequate social security benefits to all.

The Director provides the strategic vision; leads and manages the operation of the Department. (S)he is responsible for programme planning, implementation and evaluation of all Office activities in the field of social security and ensures the provision of technical services within the framework of agreed workplans. The Department Director also co-chairs with a World Bank counterpart the Inter-Agency Board for Coordination in Social Protection.
