INTERNSHIP, ASIA DIVISION (VOLUNTEER)

The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (“ABA ROLI”) is a non-governmental organization of the American Bar Association, which for 25 years has promoted the rule of law worldwide in collaboration with local partners. ABA ROLI’s three-year program ‘Strengthening ASEAN's Human Rights System’ works to build the involvement of the legal profession in the ASEAN human rights system.

Internship description: ABA ROLI in Indonesia is currently seeking part-time interns to work on ABA ROLI’s program ‘Strengthening ASEAN's Human Rights System’. The internship placements will be for three months each, starting January 10th, 2013 - April, 9th, 2013, and then April – July 2013, August  - September 2013 .
The intern will be supervised by ABA ROLI Legal Advocacy Advisor and/or Program Manager. The intern will assist us remotely to review, proof read, fact check and research content for a website on ASEAN human rights institutions and issues.  
It is estimated that this internship will require a time commitment of one - two days per week.

About The Website: This web site is currently under construction and will be launched in early 2013. This site seeks to centralize information related to ASEAN and human rights, and provide a space for ASEAN human rights defenders to exchange information. The site will be administered by FORUM Asia, a regional human rights NGO, but is intended to be owned by all individuals and organizations working to uphold human rights. 

Qualifications

The internship is open to law students and newly qualified law graduates.  Applicants should be well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable, with a strong interest in human rights and current affairs in Southeast Asia.  Good research skills, fluency in English and Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are required.
