Press and Communications Officer - UEAPME | Brussels


UEAPME, the European organisation representing crafts and SMEs, is looking for a talented Press and Communications Officer to join our team in April 2013. He/she will ensure the timely and effective communication of the organisation’s policy messages and activities to the press, to the organisation’s members, to other stakeholders and to the wider public.
In particular, he/she will have the following responsibilities:
  • Write and distribute press releases, statements, articles, op-eds;
  • Manage and maintain relations with journalists (press, online media, TV, radio);
  • Draft and edit the weekly newsletter, the annual report, speeches and other communications material;
  • Manage the content and design of the association’s website and its presence on social media;
  • Provide communications-related support and advice to policy colleagues.
Candidate profile:
  • Native or near-native proficiency in English and good working knowledge of French (German and Italian would be an advantage);
  • Knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions and of the media environment in Brussels;
  • Experience in journalism, communications or public relations;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Good organisational skills: flexibility, sense of initiative, ability to prioritise and to meet very tight deadlines, capability to operate effectively in a small and busy multicultural environment;
  • Full ICT literacy, in particular Microsoft Word and PowerPoint;
  • Experience as webmaster or web editor and/or good knowledge of HTML;
  • Experience in working with businesses and/or SMEs would be an advantage.
Conditions:
  • The post is a full-time job (38 hours per week) with a permanent contract under Belgian law;
  • The post is based in Brussels;
  • Applicants must have the right to work in Belgium;

  • The successful candidate will be required to start working on 2 April;
  • He/she must be available for the handover to be arranged with the current post holder in the last weeks of March.
