Research Associate, Impact Investing


The Research Associate (RA) is responsible for helping the Foundation’s Initiative (Program) teams to stay on top of developments in the field – new players, key events, new information being generated, policy movements, important upcoming events, etc. 
RAs are typically deployed concurrently to two initiative teams and deployments can change based on the approval of future work of the Foundation. This position will first be deployed to the Impact Investing (II) team to coordinate and facilitate the Foundation’s engagement with the emerging II industry. This includes monitoring of remaining non-grant activities under its Impact Investing initiative; integration of the Foundation’s efforts on Social Impact Bond (SIB)s within its overall work on Impact Investing; and participation in the development manage and execution of future strategy. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Event coordination – logistics, content, and partner management; majority Initiative-led convening work but may include coordination of meetings led by grantees or other outside partners and hosted by the Foundation.
  • Managing media and other public outreach opportunities, sometimes working in partnership with Communications department and President’s Office, to proactively disseminate information about the Foundation’s II and SIB work and ensure the team takes advantage of influence opportunities. This includes updating the II page of the Rockefeller website, authoring bi-monthly II newsletter, coordinating activities with SIB communications grantee. May also include writing projects (e.g., drafting articles, press releases and op-eds).
  • Working with other program staff to manage grantee relationships and monitor grantee performance.
  • Represent the Foundation on conference calls, at convenings, and by making presentations related to SIBs.
  • Acting as first point-of-contact for queries about II and SIB work, providing effective communication about our work and developing new contacts as appropriate
  • Coordinating between the Innovation team, the President’s Office and external partners on an emerging collective action strategy for SIB funding.
  • Proactively communicating with important members of our network to maintain Rockefeller’s knowledge of industry developments and cutting edge strategic thinking
  • Managing capacity for team to form partnerships internally with other Initiative areas
  • Internal workflow management and other duties as assigned

Education, Training and Experience

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Computer proficiency in: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet search skills, PowerPoint, and ability to learn new applications quickly
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in communications and/or project management
  • Familiarity with the impact investing field (and specific knowledge of development finance or economics preferred)
  • Proven track-record of value-added contribution to project teams
