Department Strategic CommunicationTranslator and Editor (post level 10/11) (25hpw) (contract appointment: 1 year) – Ref.: S1301-001
Duties and responsibilities:  
  • Translate and edit prepared text.
  • Write copies.
  • Advise and make recommendations in terms of the correct use of language in Afrikaans and English.
  • Update and distribution of the division’s Style Guide.
  • Keep pace with language development, translations, terms and neologisms.
Inherent requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Two (2) years’ to three (3) years’ proven experience in translation and editing.Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet.
  • Experience in translation and editing from Afrikaans into English.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s parallel-medium and multicultural working environment.
  • Ability to function independently as well as within a team.Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to work accurate and systematic with meticulous attention to detail and commitment to a high standard of work.
Recommendations:
  • Knowledge and work experience in a higher education environment.
  • Membership of a professional body such as the South African Translators’ Institute (SATI).

General:
