Background
AKF, India (AKF, I) is one of the eight AKDN India institutions active across eight states. Its role towards other agencies includes support and coordination in strategy development, technical assistance, innovation promotion, quality assurance, institutional strengthening, resource mobilisation, grant management and accountability to donors.  Based in New Delhi, AKF, India employs 40 people at the head office and field offices. AKF, I’s portfolio is approximately US$10 million annually. AKF manages programmes directly in Bihar and in Uttar Pradesh; Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh; and Nizamuddin (Delhi.) It proposes to expand into Andhra Pradesh (AP) in partnership with the Hyderabad Academy.
 
Role
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to contribute to high quality multi-state and multi-input development programmes in India.  The CEO, AKF, India is responsible to the National Committee for the management of the unit and day-to-day implementation of its affairs in accordance with the strategy/policies/procedures established by the AKF Board and refined for the local context by the National Committee. The CEO is also responsible for ensuring coherence and synergy between the strategies and programmes of the AKF unit and those of other AKDN agencies operating in India. In addition to providing oversight for the programme portfolio, an important responsibility for the CEO is fund-raising from international and domestic donor agencies as well as corporate sources.
 
Profile
The CEO / Senior Executive must be able to demonstrate the highest level of responsibility and leadership under extreme deadlines with experience in financial management, personnel management, and public and donor relations. The person selected for this position should have a keen appreciation for the objectives, values and ethical underpinnings of AKF. S/he should have a strong interest in the developing world and a willingness and ability to learn quickly about a broad range of development issues in which AKF is involved. The successful candidate will have experience in international development, government relations and resource mobilisation preferably within the Indian context. The post requires excellent communication, strategic thinking and conceptualisation, analytical and people skills, and a passion for socio-economic development and a drive for results. 
 
The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years’ experience in a top/senior management position, leading a team of employees and volunteers scattered over a large geographic area.  The post requires an individual who is capable of dealing productively with a wide range of stakeholders, including the AKF Board, other AKDN agencies, grantees, partners and the broader community interested in development. Knowledge of, and familiarity with, technology and modern communications is essential. Experience of fund-raising from international and domestic donor agencies as well as corporate sources is key.  The post requires travel. Fluency in English, both written and oral, is a requirement.  Fluency in Hindi is desirable.
