As external financial audit institutions, they make a positive contribution towards the efficient and effective use of public funds to provide state services. They are a key element of good financial governance and hence good governance. In November 2011, a regional organisation of ASEAN supreme audit institutions (ASEANSAI) was founded under the ambit of ASEAN after consultation with the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI). The organisation aims to promote the exchange of experience and build capacity among the member institutions and hence promote the role and reputation of external financial auditing services in the region.
