The Open Society Foundations seek a Director of Talent Acquisition (global role based in NYC).
Purpose of Position
Reporting to the global Director of HR, the Director of Talent Acquisition is a highly visible and newly created role and is responsible for the development and delivery of the overall talent acquisition strategy from recruitment through onboarding for Open Society Foundations’ programs in New York, Baltimore, Washington, D.C, Barcelona, Brussels, Budapest, and London. 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  OSF may add, change, or remove essential and other duties at any time.
  • Create unique talent acquisition strategies to address Open Society Foundations’ needs and objectives to ensure pipeline of talent pool is robust. Drive staffing and alternative sourcing strategies including active and passive sourcing, the utilization of social media and optimization of our online presence. Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of internal and external markets;
  • Provide strategic direction, staffing expertise and counsel to senior and operational leadership teams on a variety of talent acquisition issues. Responsible for effectively communicating and forging strong relationships throughout Open Society Foundations. Coach interviewers to culturally screen and deliver quality applicants to hiring managers for skillset and team matches. Cultivate relationships with employees to drive internal mobility across the foundation;
  • Develop and manage recruiting reports, dashboards, and metrics. Establish and track metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the recruiting team, hiring managers, interviewers, and referrers; take proactive measures to address deficiencies;
  • Articulate, own and lead the vision for Open Society Foundations’ recruiting globally to create a unified team with shared vision, shared goals, and partnership in execution;
  • Develop a dual-intake global junior rotation program for program associates and program coordinators. Establish target schools, design recruitment and interview process, and collaborate with the Director of Talent Management on training;
  • Directly work on critical recruitment endeavors and key roles within Open Society Foundations. Conduct in-depth behavioral interviews in order to assess cultural fit, skillsets, and competencies of candidates. Document candidate profiles and assist programs in determining candidate matches;
  • Create systems, tools and processes that provide a feedback loop that makes candidate and hiring manager satisfaction data accessible and actionable;
  • Leverage social media sources, resume harvesting and parsing, mining databases and job boards to source, pursue, and pipeline qualified talent;
  • Manage a small team of 2 recruiters and leverage European HR partners toward the goal of hiring employees in a timely manner who are excellent candidates for opening. Ensure legal compliance in regard to all talent acquisition initiatives and related programs;
  • In collaboration with the human resources information systems manager, drive the implementation of the sourcing and onboarding application of new HRIS system (Ultimate);
  • Member of the HR Leadership Team. Provide support to the Director of HR for completion of special projects and other duties;
  • Must be able to travel up to 30% of the time.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A/B.S) from four-year college or university; and  ten years’ experience in recruiting with 3 years’ recruiting at the executive leadership level along with a track record of success creating and executing a cohesive, thoughtful and results-driven recruitment strategy within a fast-moving, highly dynamic, and complex environment;
  • MS in Industrial Organizational Psychology or Human Resources Development or MBA strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated record of developing meaningful, actionable metrics that can be used to optimize the process, technology, and resources of the organization as well as make use of candidate and hiring manager feedback;
  • Unparalleled organizational, communication, leadership, and customer service skills;
  • Experience with a broad range of recruiting methodologies including the implementation of internal sourcing capabilities, direct sourcing, networking, professional organizations, internet, and referrals;
  • Solid understanding of labor market shifts and influencers. Knowledge of legal issues and requirements of employee labor laws, ensuring the organization develops appropriate policies and implements systems that comply;
  • Good sense of humor – ability to laugh at oneself;
  • Experience working with countries outside the United States; understanding of and experience with countries in EMEA, Africa and APAC.
Program Specific Requirements
  • Experience working successfully within a global, matrix organization with a complex organizational structure, experience in non-profit or foundations is a plus;
  • Substantive experience and obvious continued passion for performing all aspects of the recruiting lifecycle successfully to include needs assessment, research, sourcing, screening, interviewing, candidate assessment, relationship building and candidate closure/on-boarding;
