The Law School at Hunan University is committed to providing a superb education in both established and emerging fields of law, public administration and politics. The school of Law can be traced back to Shiwu School in 1897 and merged with the school of politics and public administration in 2010. It is known internationally for its combination of high-quality research with a provision of a first-class legal and political education at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as post-doctoral opportunities. Its teaching in the fields of civil law, criminal law, economic law, jurisprudence, public administration remains dominant and have a good reputation nationwide. The school has many distinctive research centres which have done many significant achievements in the areas of Roman law legal System, human rights, criminal law, financial law, testimony. Based on the authorisation of Ministry of Justice, the school of law established a state-level expert testimony centre in 2007. The school has 90 full-time academic staff members, 20 of them are professors and 40 are associate professors. This offers the students at the school of law the chance to work closely with leading internationally recognised academics through lectures, tutorials and seminars.
General Responsibilities and Requirements for All Positions:
  • Conduct full-time lecturing and research in the discipline of law, politics and public administration.
  • Obtained a PhD degree from an internationally renowned university.
  • Research experience with outstanding academic achievements will be a huge plus.
  • Applications of non-Chinese origin should have basic Chinese communication skills.
Specific Responsibilities and Requirements for different positions:
  • Assistant professor: should have had at least 1 paper in international journals or international conferences; should have at least one year experience of overseas studying or research.
  • Associate professor: should have had at least 1 academic monograph or 3 papers published in international journals as first author; should have had at least one national research achievement or one provincial research award.
  • Professor: should have had at least 3 papers published on SSCI journals or other international journals; at least 1 papers published in world-leading journals; host at least a national level research project.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Annual salary RMB 100,000 for assistant professor, RMB 150,000 for associate professor and RMB 200,000 for professor. Specific treatments for outstanding applicants are to be negotiated in person.
  • Settlement allowance RMB 200,000 for professors and RMB 140,000 for associate professors and assistant professors, paid in monthly within five years.
  • Monthly accommodation rental subsidy within 2 years, RMB 400 for unmarried and RMB 600 for married.
  • Start-up research fund RMB 100,000 for professors.
  • Youth Scholars funding available for assistant professor and associated professor under 40 years old, with a lump-sum research grant of RMB 150,000, annual payment in five years.
  • Full university benefits and public insurance.
  • 3 month University semester vacation, summer vacation runs from July to August and Winter vacation around Chinese New Year.
