World Vision Agriculture and Food Security Technical Specialist

The Agriculture and Food Security Technical Specialist will help manage and provide technical support to the work of the Agriculture and Food Security (A&FS) sector at the global level, including the work of the Director and the Community of Practice. Your work will contribute to improved and sustained household economic well-being, including the well-being of children in those households, by strengthening the effectiveness of the A&FS sector and its associated networks and interest groups. You will help keep the team run smoothly by writing, researching and overseeing communications needs and being the go-to person/central hub for anyone interested in learning what the A&FS Team is doing. You will help design and execute special projects or conduct research related to A&FS and contribute to the process of strategy development at the global, regional and national office levels.
With a proven track record in a fast paced, complex and ideally global organisation, you will have a desire to help others and model ethics in line with the foundations and ethos of the organisation.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Develop and manage the A&FS Community of Practice (CoP) and coordinate related activities (e.g. proactively communicate, interact with, and develop working relationships that facilitate active, functional interest groups).
• Create periodic briefs and/or newsletter to disseminate relevant information to target audiences; this would include news that is relevant to the agriculture sector, lessons learned in and through the CoP, etc.
• Contribute to the creation of relevant tools, methodologies, reports and other written communication materials, both individually, and in collaboration with others.
• Manage the vetting process for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in support of the GTRN (Global Technical Resource Network) and monitor the SME work with National Offices (NOs) to ensure high quality services in agriculture and food security.
REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:
• Education and experience to include Master’s Degree in Agriculture or related discipline, and 2-3 years field experience, or, Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and 4-5 years of field experience. Field experience could include either direct work in the field, or work with a Support Office with some travel to field locations and understanding of field-based challenges.
• Clear understanding of agriculture and food security issues, and their relationship to child well-being.
• Clear understanding the importance of the various dimensions of sustainability (ecological, economic, and social), the importance of sustainability and resilience to agricultural productivity and economic viability, and of the dimensions of food security.
• Experience and proficiency in statistical analysis and interpretation of results.
• Able and willing to travel, both domestically and internationally if required.
