Position Description
The Communications and Outreach Specialist will work as part of an integrated and well-coordinated global marketing and resource mobilization team to participate in the development and implementation of targeted communications and outreach strategies, strengthen SNV USA’s web and social media presence and messaging, and support the Executive Director on various projects. The candidate will also work in media relations, managing the organization’s contacts and relationships and supporting overall communications and partnership development.
Duties
- Support the Executive Director to monitor, manage, and regularly refresh the SNV USA communications strategy;
- Effectively represent SNV’s programs, partnerships, positioning, marketing, and business development strategies through a wide variety of formats and publications;
- Shape engaging, compelling and motivating messaging to target audiences to increase SNV’s visibility and assist in relationship management, including writing/editing articles for internal and external audiences and drafting communications materials;
- Assemble SNV USA’s annual review and other reports as required and in collaboration with appropriate constituencies;
- Assist with the conceptualization of SNV USA’s external website and internal intranet page;
- Conduct necessary research and write articles and blogs;
- Orchestrate social media strategies to build and enhance SNV USA’s social media presence and contacts; manage social media channels;
- Work closely with SNV USA’s Executive Director and the business development team to nurture and develop existing and new relationships with prospective partner/donor organizations;
- Support the business development team in proposal submissions (coordination, materials, relationship management, etc.);
- Assist with the preparation of multimedia presentations on SNV success stories from Africa, Asia, and Latin America;
- Assist the Executive Director and various communications consultants in positioning SNV USA and SNV USA’s Executive Director through various media channels, speaking opportunities, media articles, events, etc.;
- Manage the relationships of SNV USA’s Executive Director by maintaining and updating contacts and the relationship database, managing contact meetings, and managing and developing follow-up communications as appropriate;
- Manage relations with the communications team in the Netherlands; and
- Coordinate activities with various communications consultants and interns.
Skills/Experience
Required
- Three to five years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field;
- Demonstrated ability to use social media tools (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and blogging for advocacy, campaigns and/or fundraising;
- Experience and ability to understand context and needs of disparate audiences which cross all social economic classes and global regions, including those of government decision makers, social influencers, engaged public and employees;
- Ability to set long-term strategic communication goals and tactical plans for achieving them
- Excellent verbal, and written communications, networking, and presentation skills (in English);
- Ability to capture in writing comprehensive context of communications in informal and formal meeting settings
- Proven experience developing message and content of multimedia presentations;
- Excellent relationship management skills to build and maintain strong business and political alliances
- Ability to be self-motivated, flexible, organized, detail-oriented, and work independently in a team environment;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; and
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred
- Web design/content management background;
- Academic and/or professional interest and experience in International Development;
- Experience using internal databases, such as SalesForce or Access; and
- Academic and/or professional interest and experience in one of SNV’s program regions: Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America.
