Communications Manager , Lion Guardians
Lion Guardians is a leading conservation organization working in East Africa to promote the sustainable co-existence between people and lions by using cultural values, community participation and science.
Lion Guardians is currently seeking a Communications Manager who will establish and manage a communications program that successfully supports the organization achieve its major goals and targets.
Key Responsibilities:
The Communications Manager will be responsible for the following activities:
• Overseeing implementation of the Communications Strategy, including developing and implementing annual work plans and maintaining budgets.
• Working closely with management and operations staff to ensure that all communications products and activities are directly supporting operations needs.
• Leading on the coordination, development and production of communications materials, including: drafting content for website, blog posts, newsletters, reports and papers; editing external communications materials, such as films, radio programs, brochures and correspondence. This also includes creating templates and other materials that will assist Lion Guardians’ staff with fundraising and profile raising activities (e.g. for presentations or correspondence).
• Developing a media strategy to guide the management of a strong media relations program.
• Managing public relations activities between Lion Guardians’ and donors, including developing targeted marketing materials for donors and supporting Lion Guardians’ staff in fundraising and donor relations.
• Building capacity of Lion Guardians’ staff to become effective communicators.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in Communications or related field.
• Three to five years of formal communications experience, ideally in the NGO/non-profit sector.
• Proven track record of creating and executing successful communications strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, developing tailored messages and using appropriate tools, language and channels, with various and diverse audiences, including donor audiences, media and local community groups.
• Strong understanding of communications tools and resources, including social media and other web-based medium.
• Proven track record of developing effective fundraising tools
• Excellent, creative written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to handle a high volume of work and complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
• Strong team player that can also work independently.
• The ideal candidate will have experience with and knowledge of social development and conservation sectors in East Africa.
Location:
The position will be located in Nairobi, Kenya, with frequent field visits to the Lion Guardians Training Center near Amboseli National Park.
