Background:
SOS Children’s Villages www.soschildrensvillages.org works in 133 countries to support families and help children at risk grow up in a loving home. In a world filled with poverty, violence, and injustice, the greatest victims are often children. For more than 60 years, we have worked with partners in each community to either help families care for their children or to provide an alternative, for instance an SOS family, in which the love of a carer is essential. Everything we do is based on the best interests of the child, and each has an individual development plan. We focus on the care, health, education and general development of each individual.
Purpose of this position:
SOS Children’s Villages International is looking for an experienced professional for the role of Fund Development (Fundraising) Advisor – Western Europe and North America.
SOS Children’s Villages´ fundraising income is raised mostly in Western Europe and North America. We aim at strengthening our capacity to coordinate internal efforts for supporting associations in this geographical area.
Reporting to the International Director Fund Development and Communications this position will have working relationships with fundraisers in Western Europe and North America and with key staff across the General Secretariat and the organisation.
Priority tasks & responsibilities
Providing fundraising support to Member Associations in Western Europe and North America
Support development and implementation of fundraising strategies in key Member Associations ?with a special focus on smaller ones? in collaboration with different Units/Depts. of International Fund Development and Communications Competence Centre (FDC) and with Promoting and Supporting Associations (PSA) Relations Office.
Develop clear and prioritised agreements on how Member Associations will be supported in their fundraising efforts.
Knowledge sharing
Coordinate peer to peer exchanges /reviews
Consolidate fundraising good practice from fundraisers in Western Europe and North America and actively share them via existing and/or new internal channels
Consolidate an overview of fundraising performance and competitor developments in Western Europe and North America in collaboration with International Strategy and Analysis Unit and share regularly with PSA Relations Office and rest of organisation as and when required
Prepare and consolidate any requested presentations or reports for different stakeholders Organize trainings for PSA Relations Office in fundraising
Contribute to content development of the FDC Campus (knowledge sharing platform)
Internal Stakeholder Coordination
In the frame of the annual support planning process collect input from various networks (Western Europe and North America) and liaise with PSA Relations Office for the final definition and track/report added value/impact of this
Act as the main contact point within International Fund Development and Communications Competence Centre for fundraisers in Western Europe and North America and PSA Relations Office for any specific fundraising support.
Liaise with PSA Relations Office for supporting in annual strategic planning sessions with Member Associations and regularly de?brief International Fund Development Units and International Director on outcome.
Liaise with PSAs Relations Office regarding any fundraising and communication topic that needs to be brought up at the attention of management in Member Associations.
Coordinate Heads Fundraising Network (Western Europe and North America)

Ensure coordination with the International Head of External Communications for links with Heads of Communications network.
Organize regular exchange between International Fund Development and Communications and PSA Relations Office
Consolidate and share information on FDC support to Western Europe and North America associations

Candidate profile
Required education and background:
University degree in business, marketing, or communications.
Required skills and experience:
At least 5 years’ experience at senior level in a national fundraising programme and ideally 2/3 years at an international level
Technical skills in the complete fundraising cycle: e.g. market research, strategy development; budgeting; donor relationship management and monitoring
Knowledge of synergies between brand and fundraising

Track record of building effective relationships at senior level with a wide range of individuals Ability to work in network and capacity to work effectively in a multicultural environment
Expertise in developing strategic plans and understanding the practical issues of their implementation
Proven project management skills

Experience in working with colleagues to develop a vision and purpose and translating that vision into practical work plans
Strong personal organisational and self?management skills and the ability to work in teams
Willingness and ability to travel internationally and spend time in both Vienna and Innsbruck, Austria

Excellent written and spoken English with another European language an asset
