We are recruiting a Head of Competition Legal and Fair Trading to join the Legal Division and lead our multidisciplinary team of competition lawyers, fair trading policy advisers and economists. Our team is part of the BBC Legal Division and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the BBC complies with its regulatory obligations.

This is a new role, reporting to the BBC General Counsel’s office, leading and managing the Competition Legal and Fair Trading department with line management of competition lawyers, fair trading policy advisers and economists. This role will lead and manage the department providing comprehensive advice to senior management on all aspects of competition, state aid, broadcast regulation and fair trading as well as advising on the BBC’s own Royal Charter and DCMS Agreement.

To be successful in this role you will need substantial experience of providing regulatory advice (including either competition law or fair trading advice), working at a senior level within a professional service and/or business development role. You will have experience of dealing with senior management, including to executive and non-executive director level, and of dealing with external regulators, and a proven ability to use reasoned argument to support regulatory/legal judgements. In addition, you’ll need to demonstrate strong analytical skills, be an outstanding communicator both orally and in writing and enjoy working as part of a team. A background of experience of applied economics would be advantageous.
