Junior External Relations Consultant

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill a position of Junior External Relations Consultant, which will be available in the Rome-Based Agencies and CFS Division (PGR) at our Headquarters, in Rome, Italy. The contract will be for an initial period of 3 months.
The primary purpose of PGR is to support WFP's hunger mandate by promoting WFP's collaboration and partnership with the Rome-Based Agencies (RBAs) and the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The Division's strategic objectives are: (i) positioning WFP, advocating and reflecting WFP's views on key areas within the RBAs and the CFS; (ii) continuing to strengthen and consolidate on-going partnerships with the RBAs and the CFS at all levels and monitor the progress made; (iii) supporting the follow-up with the RBAs and the CFS on key policy, programme and other processes; and (iv) continuing knowledge management and information sharing on RBA collaboration and the CFS.
Under the direct supervision of the External Relations Officer and the overall supervision of the Director, RBA Relations & CFS, the Consultant will be responsible for undertaking the following key duties:
• Assist in strengthening and consolidating on-going partnerships with the RBAs;
• Assist in coordinating and organizing meetings with RBA counterparts as well as WFP staff concerned on relevant issues and events;
• Attend meetings, take notes and alert the issues of importance;
• Prepare draft reports, talking points, briefs, correspondence and other documents for review;
• Conduct researches on RBA policies, strategies and programs;
• Perform other duties as required. Qualifications & Experience Required
Education:
• University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Communications or other related fields.
Experience:
• At least one year of postgraduate professional experience in international development, donor aid programmes or other related fields;
• Experience with WFP and/or other humanitarian organization is desirable. Technical Skills & Knowledge:
• General knowledge of international assistance policies and programs;
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other standard office software packages and systems.
Competencies:
• Excellent drafting, communication and presentation skills;
• Good analytical skills and ability to plan and organize work;
• Ability to work in a team and establish effective working relationships with people from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
Language:
