Emergency WASH Manager, Greece


BACKGROUND
International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs, seeks candidates for the position ofEmergency WASH Manager in Greece.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. JOB SUMMARY
The WASH Manager's main tasks lie in the assessment and prioritization of urgent WASH response needs, the designing, implementation and coordination of emergency WASH interventions, and the training of local staff and stakeholders in WASH related topics.
This position in particular is in response to the Refugee Response in Greece. International Medical Corps has been able to mobilize medical teams and a WASH expert, and is supporting refugees in settlements/camps with urgently needed material and equipment. In terms of WASH, the focus is two-fold: ensuring adequate WASH supplies are provided in these settlements, and provision of Hygiene and Sanitation Promotion.
The person will be accountable for formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH program to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the program management, delivery and accomplishment of program goals and objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Assessment and analysis of the developing emergency situation
-Technical support to settlements/camps in which IMC is involved, with specific focus on Hygiene and
Sanitation Promotion
-Plan and supervise daily activities of the WASH response program
-Management of WASH response team to insure smooth and effective operations
-Training of local staff and relevant stakeholders in Hygiene Promotion in order to build capacity and insure sustainability of programs
-Supervise distribution of all necessary items and materials
-Contribute to the development of proposals and concept notes for WASH intervention
-Compile regular reports, program/project documents and budgets
-Ensure community participation where and as appropriate
-Work with field teams, logistics, and finance staff to procure and distribute project supplies within the project budget
-Coordination with other humanitarian actors, relevant authorities and other stakeholders
-Contribution to internal and external coordination meetings
-Representation in relevant WASH Working Group meetings
-Maintain frequent communication with the Program Coordinator to ensure program activities and objectives are communicated

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.
-Bachelor’s degree (emphasis in Public Health/Hygiene/Sanitation)
-5+ years of relevant work experience (minimum of 3 years in humanitarian situations; camp settings a plus)
-Experience in hygiene promotion in humanitarian contexts
-Practical experience and understanding of project cycle management
-Self-starter with excellent decision making skills
-Sound skills in staff supervision, training, capacity building and development
-Profound cross-cultural awareness and insight into public health issues
-Good understanding and working knowledge of standards including Sphere and WHO
-Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
-Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
-Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively
-Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources
-Sense of humor
