UTZ is headquartered in Amsterdam and works closely with its partner network in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are looking to hire a:
Forced Labor Expert
Addressing forced labor is relevant for all the work of UTZ, because UTZ cannot accept any situation of forced labor. Nevertheless forced labor may occur in current and future agriculture. Therefore UTZ puts effort in developing and implementing an effective approach to combat Forced Labor.
UTZ long-term goal is to contribute to inclusive growth and mainstreaming of sustainable farming, in the global agricultural sectors in which UTZ is active, with the active participation and inclusion of civil society organizations (CSOs). Understanding forced labor issues in this context is seen by UTZ as fundamental for the promotion of sector change. Apart from hiring an expert to eliminate Forced Labor, UTZ has hired experts with a focus on Productivity, Farmer Groups Strengthening, Gender, Climate, Living wage and Child Labor and Living wage. The Forced Labor Expert will work closely together with these experts, specifically with the Child Labor expert, being hosted by the 'Training & Themes Department', and reports to the Head of Department Training & Themes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Translates the UTZ strategy and vision into policy, plan and approach and takes up its implementation;
  • Is aware of developments and actively engages with relevant networks within the area of Forced Labor and uses inputs from external parties for development of UTZ' position and approach on the topic;
  • Initiates and takes the lead in projects on Forced Labor, supports department and country-specific projects where Forced Labor knowledge is involved, including baseline studies, review and impact evaluation;
  • Develops thematic training curricula on Forced Labor;
  • Advises and supports management and (overseas) colleagues - solicited and unsolicited- on the Forced Labor policy and its implementation and execution;
  • Initiates and organizes meetings and participates in discussions with relevant groups, stakeholders and governments on Forced Labor.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5 years of work experience in a multi stakeholder programs or organizations, preferably in agriculture;
  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g. social studies or international development);
  • Experience with forced labor policies, approaches and programs;
  • Experience with value chain or private sector approaches to social issues;
  • Organizational cross-cultural, communication and diplomatic skills;
  • Hands-on, analytical and pragmatic;
  • Fluency in English and French are a must, mastering Spanish is a big pro.
Employment is based upon 24 hours/week. The position is based in Amsterdam, with regular travels abroad, and is open to applicants of all nationalities. However, we can only consider candidates who have, will get or are eligible for a Dutch work and residency permit.
