Salary: Competitive Salary & Benefits Package
Based: Nyala, Darfur
Contract: 12 Months Unaccompanied Contract
Closing date: 7th March 2011

Norwegian Church Aid is seeking a Director to manage the NCA Darfur Programme supported by ACT and Caritas, a US$12million multi-sectoral programme, aiming to improve the quality of life of IDPs and communities most affected by the violence and unrest in South and West Darfur. Working in partnership and with the most vulnerable is our priority.

The programme was established in July 2004 and currently provides humanitarian services to more than 300,000 people. In what is now a chronic yet still volatile emergency, the programme is seeking to transition from a relief operation to the provision of more sustainable forms of support to the different affected communities whilst continuing to respond to urgent needs when required. The Director will lead the NCA Darfur Programme through this process, focusing on programme support to and capacity building of our national partners, whilst retaining an operational emergency response capacity. The NCA Darfur Director reports to NCA Country Director.

The programme needs a strong leader and an inspiring people manager, able to motivate, coordinate and lead a large diverse team of local partners, local staff and international staff to achieve programme objectives. Excellent representation skills are essential to maintain relationships with local authorities and partners as well as for ensuring continued funding for the programme. Excellent strategic programme management skills, including financial management and an ability to manage programmes in an insecure environment, are required. Finally, strong and wide ranging personal qualities such as self motivation, vision and diplomacy will be a critical factor for success. Experience from working with faith based organisations is preferable.

If you have the extensive experience and the range of programme, people and personal skills required for this post and are stimulated by the challenge of making a major impact on this programme in Darfur we look forward to receiving your application.
