Job Summary

Working with the Head of Section (Small States, Environment and Economic Management) and the designated Economic Adviser, the Economic Officer will support implementation and reporting of work related to the economic development of small states.

Thematic areas include: economic vulnerability and building the economic resilience of small states; policy analysis and support on the economic development of small states; preparation of the annual Small States Economic Review and Basic Statistics; and consultations on small states concerns.

S/he will be required to progress projects and publications, prepare briefings and materials for public outreach, research specific topics and search for data, liaise with governments and contacts in international organisations, and represent the Commonwealth Secretariat at technical meetings in relevant areas.

Task Description

· Research current issues on small states with a view to providing inputs for studies, briefs and terms of references;

· Support the Commonwealth work programme on small states through the preparation of project proposals and management of projects including preparation of contracts, monitoring the work of consultants and reporting on the progress of projects

· Prepare inputs for the Annual Divisional Work Plan

· Research and prepare statistical and other inputs for the Annual Economic Review and Basic Statistics

· Develop material on small states for the Commonwealth Secretariat website;

· Support/take the lead in the preparation and publication of the quarterly Small States Digest

· Support/take the lead in managing the small states online database

· Provide support to workshops, conferences and seminars organised as part of the small states work programme including the global biennial small states conference,

· Represent the Commonwealth Secretariat at meetings, as necessary

· Prepare briefs for senior officials of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
