Chief of Party - Ghana

Overview:

Chief of Party needed to lead a large USAID regional reproductive health program with its headquarters in Accra. The Chief of Party (COP) is expected to provide leadership and direction to ensure the strategic, programmatic, technical, and financial integrity of the program. The COP is responsible for achieving the planned results set out for the program. The COP will be the primary point of contact with the donor, local government counterparts and partner institutions. The COP is responsible for overall program management and guidance to team members. This position is contingent upon award from USAID/West Africa.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with technical and programmatic leads to ensure effective implementation and coordination of program activities and monitor progress toward the achievement of the program goals and objectives
  • Harness human, material and financial resources appropriate for the program
  • Work with finance and program staff to develop and track program budgets
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of program activities and results to USAID
  • Present progress, achievements and lessons learned to key stakeholders including donor and partners
  • Supervise and manage a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts with program goals
  • Lead the annual work planning process
  • Provide technical leadership in the design, analysis, and synthesis of interventions
  • Assure the quality of technical interventions
  • Assure the sustainability of interventions particularly in the area of capacity building
  • Advise national counterparts on technical issues and participate in relevant technical advisory groups with counterparts and partner institutions
  • Troubleshoot to prevent and resolve potential problems and review outputs for quality control
  • Cultivate relationships with other agencies and align workplan according to each agency
  • Cultivate strategic relationships and alliances with the other USG partners, SO teams and donors including private sector partnerships
  • Represent the project to USAID and in all matters pertaining to the execution of program-related activities
Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in public health or relevant field
  • 12+ years senior level experience in program development, implementation and management of large health programs
  • 5+ years previous Chief of Party experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing USAID or other donor-financed projects
  • Knowledge of USAID regulations and compliance
  • Proven track record of directing, motivating, and managing project teams composed of technical experts, program managers, and administrative staff
  • Background and expertise in Reproductive Health
  • Significant previous field experience in Africa of which 5 of those years should be experience in West Africa
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to travel internationally
