Italy Security Analyst P2

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill the position of Security Analyst at the P2 level, which will become available in our headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Staff safety is a pre-eminent concern for WFP. The Security Analyst will be preparing analytical reports, updates and alerts on security related matters.

Under the direct supervision of the head of the Security Analysis unit (ODF), the Security Analyst will be responsible for the following duties: • Conducts research on identified topics related to threats and risks for WFP staff and operations. • Collects security-related information from a variety of sources (internal and external) on a daily basis; collates such information according to identified security-related subjects; monitor and analyzes developments and trends that affect or may affect WFP staff safety and security of operations. • Determines security information requirements for WFP in a specific country and/or region, identify reliable sources of information, timely disseminate relevant security threat/risk information to identified users within WFP. • Provides inputs for Weekly Security Updates, other security updates, regular and ad hoc analytical reviews, security risk forecasts, background and briefing notes on security-related topics. • Prepares and updates Country Security Profiles on a regular basis. • Ensures timely submission, registration and reporting of information on security incidents involving WFP staff, assets, contractors and partners engaged in support of WFP operations, via Security Information Management and Security Analysis Support System (SIMSAS). • Prepares analysis of security incidents affecting WFP staff and/or assets to identify security threats and the extent of WFP staff exposure to security risks. Ensures necessary follow-up and tracking of security incidents. • Submit proposals for the improvement of internal security reporting procedures and practices. • Prepares and conducts briefings to staff, partners and donors on security developments, threats and risks in specific countries/regions. • Keeps and updates the WFP Security Library’s collection of security-related documents and disseminates security-related information to identified users. Submits proposals on appropriate resources to obtain security-related information, including subscription options, in cooperation with the WFP Library.

Qualifications & Experience Required: Education: • University Degree, preferably in Political or Social Science, or International Relations. Military, Police or national intelligence background is an asset. Experience: • At least 3 years of postgraduate experience in political or security analysis at national and/or international level, some of which must be as a professional analyst or political officer. Experience in security management, peacekeeping operations, humanitarian work, military, police, national intelligence or international organization is required. Knowledge of practices and procedures of UN organizations is an asset. Technical Skills & Knowledge: • Excellent analytical and drafting skills. Proven ability to produce reports and papers on security and political issues, preferably in the international perspective. Ability to communicate complex concepts orally and in writing. Knowledge of the UN context, preferably in the field of security management, peacekeeping or humanitarian operations, is an asset. Competencies: • WFP’s core competencies for professionals include action management, communication skills and high standards of ethics and values. Language: • Full proficiency (level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (level B) of another UN official language (French, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, Chinese) or WFP’s working language, Portuguese. Shortlisted candidates will be assessed through written assignment and oral interview.

Terms and Conditions Selected candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a probationary period of one year.
