Project Context
Building Markets is recruiting for its Sustainable Marketplace Initiative project in Myanmar. The SMI will contribute to private sector development by linking international, regional and national buyers with capable local entrepreneurs. Building Markets is seeking resourceful and motivated staff who are committed to private sector development in Myanmar.
Business Verification is the cornerstone of all Building Markets’ activities and provides buyers with a detailed picture of the goods and services available from local businesses as well as key information such as legal status, ownership structure, track record and key contact details. Given the fluid environments in which Building Markets often operates, integrity of data is absolutely crucial to the cultivation of new business relationships with local suppliers. To keep information current, the Call Centre re-verifies business data on a regular basis is essential.
Position Overview
The Business Verification Officer is responsible for the overall development and management of a country-specific business verification process. An effective business verification methodology and process will result in the development of a robust and steadily growing list of verified local businesses on the Business Directory. The Business Verification Associate oversees the Call Centre and Verification Assistants and reports directly to the Business Development Manager. 
Responsibilities and Duties
Tasks for this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Project Implementation (includes communications and reporting)


  • · Facility in describing the mission, objectives and complete suite of services offered by Building Markets.
  • · Conduct region and/or sector wide verification visits to register local businesses.
  • · Perform initial interview of business owners/managers using the Building Markets verification questionnaire.
  • · Take a GPS reading and photo of a new business location.
  • · Ensure that all relevant verification track sheets are updated and edited daily.
  • · Accurately record key interview information in hard copy and/or electronically as deemed appropriate.
  • · Process information obtained during verification in the appropriate Google Drive documents.
  • · Collaborate with Matchmaking and Research Teams to share information from business verification activities.
  • · Conduct impact surveys, interviews, verification and re-verification update calls as required.

 Required qualifications, skills and experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience as a trainer or instructor, preferably for adults
  • Strong English skills both written and oral
  • Strong ability to work with MS Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience managing the administrative and logistical needs of an organization
  • Demonstrated management experience
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels of the Myanmar and expat staff, local vendors, government officials and Building Markets partners
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Strong motivation to promote private sector development in Myanmar
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful attitude
