Project Context
Building Markets is recruiting for its Sustainable Marketplace Initiative project in Myanmar. The SMI will contribute to private sector development by linking international, regional and national buyers with capable local entrepreneurs. Building Markets is seeking resourceful and motivated staff who are committed to private sector development in Myanmar.
Business Verification is the cornerstone of all Building Markets’ activities and provides buyers with a detailed picture of the goods and services available from local businesses as well as key information such as legal status, ownership structure, track record and key contact details. Given the fluid environments in which Building Markets often operates, integrity of data is absolutely crucial to the cultivation of new business relationships with local suppliers. To keep information current, the Call Centre re-verifies business data on a regular basis is essential.
Position Overview
The Call Center Officer is responsible for placing telephone calls to support project service activities. The majority of time will be spent assisting the Business Verification team with their related calls. Under the supervision of the Business Verification Associate, the Call Center Officer will develop the weekly business verification schedule by setting up appointments with businesses. The Call Center Officer will additionally reconfirm verification data as necessary over the phone. The Call Center Officer will assist other project services as necessary.
Project Implementation
  • Responsible for arranging interviews with local business owners/managers on behalf of the Business Verification Team;
  • Re-verification: Regularly (at least every six months) contact suppliers registered with Building Markets to verify and update their information;
  • Educate businesses about new and existing services offered by Building Markets;
  • Conduct phone surveys to assess the impact of Building Markets' services and/or in support of market research activities;
  • Answer business enquiries and refer suppliers to the appropriate staff section as necessary;
  • Conduct invite calls for events, communication and marketing activities conferences, training sessions and matchmaking seminars;
  • Ensure that the Call Center Track sheet is updated and edited daily;
  • Perform additional tasks as required by the Business Verification Associate or the Project Services Manager.
Required qualifications, skills and experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, preferably procurement related and with either an NGO or multinational corporation
  • Strong English skills both written and oral
  • Strong ability to work with MS Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience managing the administrative and logistical needs of an organization
  • Demonstrated management experience
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels of the Myanmar and expat staff, local vendors, government officials and Building Markets partners
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong motivation to promote private sector development in Myanmar
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful attitude

  • Fluent in Myanmar, with strong English skills
