Chief Finance Officer

Building Markets is a non-profit organization whose mission it is to connect entrepreneurs, create jobs, and sustain peace. We are looking for a professional accountant to lead the finance function in the organization. Based in NY, with occasional travel to our Field offices to oversee the local finance teams

Job Description: 

As an integral part of the executive team, the CFO will be responsible for the following:

• Providing leadership for accounting and finance function.
• Preparing for external and donor audits, budget management, payroll and benefits, government returns, external financial statements
• Maintaining controls, internal reporting, and overseeing preparation of month-end financial and donor statements
• Working closely with CEO, executive team, finance staff, and budget managers
• Coordinating special projects and other duties

Who we are looking for:

To be a qualified candidate for the CFO role, you must have the following skills:

• Significant progressive accounting responsibility - ideally working with non-profit organizations.
• Experience working with donor contracts and compliance management with donors such as USAID, CIDA etc.
• Strong technical background; Hands-on, strong process and procedure design skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Cross-culturally sensitive.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize
• Ability to think outside of the box.
• Masters in Business or Development an asset. CPA/CA  required.
