Director, Advisory Services (Consumer Products)


Position Overview

The Director, Advisory Services will lead BSR’s work with consumer facing companies globally. The consumer sector is broadly defined as including apparel, footwear, toy, consumer packaged goods and retail sectors.  

The Director will work closely with other BSR Directors to develop business opportunities and deliver consulting projects that provide high value to BSR members and other leading companies that are interested in improving their sustainability performance. This position is full-time, based in New York, and reports to the Managing Director, Advisory Services in New York.

Responsibilities

  • Consulting and Member Services: The Director will play a leading role in delivering consulting services to member and non-member companies in the CP sector.  Areas of project focus may include: sustainable product design, strategy development, CSR reporting, responsible sourcing and business integration. The Director may be required to provide services to companies outside of the CP sector according to business needs.
  • Business Development: The Director will have significant responsibility for deepening relationships with senior executives and business leaders within BSR’s CP member base and developing new business opportunities across BSR’s CP portfolio.
  • External Representation: The Director will represent both BSR and the CP practice to external audiences, especially in NY, by: presenting at industry conferences; writing publications; forming beneficial external partnerships; and creating other opportunities to raise the profile of BSR more broadly. 
     

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, law, public policy or other relevant discipline required.
  • Significant business experience (at least 10 years) required, to perform the key functions of a consulting leader, including: developing and maintaining senior-level client relationships; pursuing and creating business opportunities; and overseeing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Significant experience working with, or in, a consumer facing sector. 
  • Additional experience with retail and/or hospitality sectors a plus
  • Experience in developing sustainability-related methodologies, such as: strategy design & implementation, stakeholder engagement or responsible sourcing
  • Knowledge and experience related to business processes such as strategic planning, organizational development, training programs, performance management, change management, etc.
  • Proven leadership and people skills, including a demonstrated ability to mentor the skills and effectiveness of other team members.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and facilitation skills.
  • Willingness to undertake business travel (~ 25% time).
  • Language skills: Fluent in English, with an additional language from a region in which BSR is based a strongly preferred.
