Salary Information: The salary range is $73,759 to $122,855 per annum (Specialist/Professional, Phase 3). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience. 
Primary Purpose: To significantly increase and diversify revenue to support the Edwards School of Business and institutional goals by obtaining philanthropic support from donors and prospects (including individuals, corporations, foundations) who have the capacity to make defined major gifts and/or who may become part of the Edwards School’s Associates Program. The incumbent will be responsible for leading the implementation of programs that help prospective donors cultivate ongoing relationships with the Edwards School of Business. The incumbent will plan, develop, solicit, and manage a portfolio of prospective major donors with the goal of maximizing and diversifying philanthropic support for Edwards School of Business and university priorities and goals.
 Nature of Work: The Director reports jointly to the Dean, Edward School of Business and the Associate Director of Development, Major Gifts and College Campaigns (ADD-MGCC) in University Advancement and is located in the School to garner an in-depth understanding of Edwards School’s priorities, programs and initiatives and its stakeholders and to build relationships within the School that support major gift programs and leadership initiatives in support of the School’s integrated plan.  The Director provides leadership to a team of dedicated and talented development and/or advancement professionals, works collaboratively as part of the college leadership team, and interacts with university and University Advancement leadership and professional staff.  This position provides collaborative leadership and direction for the college’s fundraising programs including annual giving, the Edwards Associates program, reunion and leadership giving and/or alumni and communications programming to support development activities and initiatives.
Establishing and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with a cross-section of faculty, staff, alumni, prospects/donors, volunteers, campus advancement professionals and other stakeholders is critical to meeting stated objectives. The Director functions in a highly demanding environment which requires the ability to scan for opportunities, issues and challenges among multiple priorities and competing interests. The incumbent will endorse and embrace diversity, innovation, partnerships and collaborative action. The work requires a proactive approach in a complex, dynamic and fast-paced environment and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience by a variety of methods and communication mediums.  Accuracy and attention to detail is essential to ensure information provided to others is correct.  The incumbent must be knowledgeable about university fundraising policies and procedures and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) ethical principles and standards to ensure discretionary decisions are in alignment.  Travel as well as evening and weekend work is required.  Consequence of error is significant to the reputation and profile of the Edwards School of Business and the university.
Accountabilities:
  • In consultation with the Dean and ADD-MGCC develop, lead, and direct the Edwards School of Business fundraising programs and work collaboratively with School leadership and advancement professionals across the university to achieve transformational growth, fundraising performance and revenue diversity.
  • As a member of the School leadership team, provide sophisticated guidance and mentorship in the School in order to increase the impact and effectiveness of fundraising activities to support the School’s strategic goals.
  • In consultation with the ADD-MGCC and Dean develop, implement and manage an annual and multi-year fundraising plan that supports School priorities, programs and initiatives.
  • Support a donor-centered process that prompts Edward School’s leadership and faculty and assists them in maintaining meaningful personal contact with major donors and volunteers
  • Work collaboratively with appropriate members of the UA team, relative to all aspects of the School’s and university managed mandates such as alumni and development programs, development communication strategies, institutional messaging and visual identity, gift processing and donor recognition guidelines as well as donor and alumni database requirements to ensure alignment of advancement activity with the School’s and university policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure that development activities protect the reputation of the University of Saskatchewan and the Edwards School of Business by ensuring transparency in the use of donor funds and that the School carries out its fiduciary responsibility with regards to donations.
Qualifications
Education: A professional program degree and appropriate training and experience in a business-related field. A recognized professional accreditation such as CFRE would be considered an asset.
Experience: Seven to ten years of directly related fundraising experience with a demonstrated progression in level of responsibility.  A proven track record of success in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors and prospective donors.  Effectively represent the interests of an organization in networking, building and maintaining effective relationships with external organizations and stakeholders and internal constituencies and programs. Knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan and an understanding of strategic planning, fundraising, sales, financial services, events management or alumni relations will be an asset. Demonstrated ability to manage large community events and coordinate campaigns that achieve pre-established contribution targets with minimal supervision.
