Position Summary
The Instrument Technician is part of the operations team accountable for the smooth operation of instrumentation on the production facilities on the platform. The role is central for ensuring optimum production targets are achieved safely. The Instrument Technician will actively carry out maintenance of instrumentation on process facilities under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead.

The successful candidate will also ensure maintenance comply with BG Advance and UK Upstream standards.

This role reports directly to the Offshore Maintenance Team Lead.
Key Accountabilities
HSSE• Contribute to a culture of continuous HSSE performance improvement.
• Ensure daily maintenance activities on the Platform fully comply with BG practices including safe systems of work. 
• Act as Permit signatory under ISSOW (as outlined in BG operating procedures).
• Ensure all work activities are carried out following safety arrangements and that processes are being operated in line with industry and internal best practice.
• Ensure that Maintenance Team Lead is advised when any Safety Critical Equipment has failed to meet the performance standard.
• Actively contribute to the achievement of outstanding performance in meeting BG Group targets of HSSE and efficiency.

Production Operation and Instrumentation• Carry out maintenance activities on the Platform ensuring facility achieves the required integrity and efficiency standards to reach targeted hydrocarbon production targets safely.
• Complete routine maintenance, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance of instrumentation and measurement equipment. 
• Identify and report any failures on plant operating outside normal parameters or malfunction, carry out the necessary action(s) to correct under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead as necessary. 
• Record maintenance data on condition before or after maintenance via electronic capture methods and passed over to be integrated with EMPAC system.
• Identify actions to be taken to minimise equipment and machinery failure.
• Where defects are identified ensue a work order is raised in CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
• Implement shutdown, performance isolation, depressurising and cleaning of Instruments where required for maintenance, de-isolating ensuring all work permits have been cleared before bringing Instruments back on line.
• Assist Production Technicians as required as per maintenance strategy.
• Able to complete pre-start up/operating checks to instrument systems, ensuring all interdependent systems are available.
• Complete post start-up/operating checks to ensure normal operating conditions.
• Be aware and monitor work being carried out in area for which you have designated authority, eg: Fire and Gas systems, ICSS.
• Completion of comprehensive shift handovers.
• Ability to take on facets of other disciplines: e.g. ability to assist Electrical \ Mechanical as second man cover when required.

Processes and systems• Completion all relevant records, log books, maintenance records etc in order to generate required reports.
• Monitor and report output from Instrument data within CMMS to review equipment performance against performance standards during maintenance on SCE elements.

Financials• Ensure cost effective maintenance is being carried out.

People and Organisation• Demonstrate an active performance mindset to others within maintenance team to focus behaviours on safe working and optimising maintenance levels against key targets under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead.
• Participate in training opportunities for offshore maintenance team for Instrument Technician job requirements. 
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
You will have a HNC/D Instrumentation or National Vocational Qualification in Instrumentation Level 3 or equivalent a working Understanding of UK offshore legislation especially Safety Critical related areas and mandatory safety, medical regulatory regulations for travel working offshore UKCS.

You will be fully conversant with all forms of process engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFD’s, P&ID’s, Data Sheets and Cause & Effect charts. Have a track record of working with industrial computer systems – DCS,ESD, F&G and Packaged PLC equipment, good working knowledge of computer based logging equipment and use of PC’s for reporting, as well as specialist knowledge in Instrument equipment – in the field and within integrated electronic systems and proficiency in industrial computer systems – DCS,ESD, F&G and Packaged PLC equipment.


With proven capability in installation, operation and maintenance of Offshore Instrumentation you will ideally skilled in operation of gas, oil & utilities aspect of production facilities and have proven capability in measuring and reporting data to deliver performance improvements and be proficient in the application of maintenance management processes.

As this is a Safety Critical Role you will perform in an emergency response role as defined in Company procedures, contributing to managing and delivering emergency response actions in the event of accidents or incidents under the direction of OIM (Offshore Installation Manager) or other relevant persons. Monitor and respond effectively to situation changes and be committed to the highest standards of HSE, working continuously for improvement both in own activities and in those of the assets, projects or other business activities in which they are involved.

Additional Information for External Candidates
Primarily this role is based offshore: 2 weeks offshore / 3 weeks onshore but may require a presence onshore, including undertaking onshore projects for defined periods of time to support business needs.
