QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer. QGC is establishing one of Australia’s largest capital infrastructure projects to turn our world-class reserves of coal seam gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG). Queensland Curtis LNG, a priority project for QGC, involves expanding our exploration and development in southern and central Queensland and transporting gas via a 380km buried pipeline to Curtis Island near Gladstone, where it will be liquefied. QGC operates the gas-fired Condamine Power Station, the world’s first combined-cycle power station to run entirely on coal seam gas.
Position Summary
The Operations Mentor - Wells & gathering is a site based role playing an integral part of the Operations Leadership team and instrumental to meeting QGC’s business plan through safe and efficient operations across the assigned area.
 
This position provides mentoring, coaching and guidance to wells & gathering personnel to effectively and efficiently operate QGC assets. The role of the Operations Mentor is to support the implementation of numerous change management initiatives, programs and activities (global work management, MAXIMO), rapid expansion and addition of wells, gathering and ponds, and an influx of new employees.

The size of the role will vary depending on location, planned manpower levels, gas throughput and anticipated well count.
Key Accountabilities
Core Accountabilities 
  •  Support the development of wells & gathering personnel & supervisors
  • Assist personnel in understanding the vision, direction and enable implementation for all Area Operations. Creating an operating environment that allows QGC personnel to manage and control site activities in support of critical programs, effectively and efficiently
  • Develops a performance culture to achieve Operational Excellence and deliver the Business Plan
  • Strong change agent
  • Assist in development of work programs and/or procedures and teach deliver a disciplined operating environment
  • Develop operating skills related to artificial lift equipment (progressive cavity pumps)
  • Ensures communication is effectively managed between site and Brisbane office
  • Deliver an agreed work programme, through aligning, prioritising, and managing a broad range of functional interests
  • Provide production and cost leadership, maximizing value from functional experts, industry best practice, and synergies between Operations
  • Influence key areas of production strategy e.g. field development planning, developments in production optimisation, production chemistry, front end engineering
  • Evaluate full implications of actions on profitability, costs and values
  • Continuously build organisational capability, assuring technical competencies are met and exceeded
  • Act as the key interface with relevant projects
  • Works across functionally to establish effective performance monitoring and reporting
  • Set clear expectations and follow up to ensure alignment and effectiveness
People Management
  • Mentor, lead and coach direct reports establishing trust and openness and confidence
  • Uses positive reinforcement and the accountability framework consistently and appropriately 
  • The incumbent must adhere to the annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate time frames
  • Support the development of operations personnel & supervisors
  • Create & maintain an operating environment that allows QGC personnel to manage and control site activities in support of critical programs, effectively and efficiently
  • Assist in development of work programs and/or procedures and teach deliver a disciplined operating environment
  • Develop operating skills related to artificial lift equipment (progressive cavity pumps)
Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE)
  • Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all personnel working on the assigned field/area
  • Champion and provide leadership towards delivery of a high performing safety culture and developing a culture of care on site
  • Every individual has a duty to both themselves and those around them to ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times. In addition to any specific accountabilities for HSSE, all managers are accountable for HSSE within their area of the Business and are responsible for ensuring that their team adopt exemplary HSSE behaviours
  • Champions Business Principles on site at all times under Conduct, Our People, Society and HSSE and to participate in relevant training
  • Work with Operations and Assurance teams to set up effective HSSE auditing programme
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience
  • Extensive demonstative experience in gas well & well site equipment operations including artificial lift systems. Significant tangible experience, safe work practices, artificial lift & well site equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance (both preventive & corrective). 
  • Experience as a supervisor or superintendent in a gas compression facility is highly desirable. 
  • Demonstrated performance as a mentor, strong communication skills and expertise in application of HSE policies and practices is necessary.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental health and safety legislation and Australian Standards as applicable to the Operation
  • In-depth understanding of all relevant legislation
  • Proven capability in emergency command and control situations up to current industry standards
  • Thorough understanding of all OMS procedures
  • Highly skilled in developing policies, operating procedures, work and resource plans and schedules
  • Proven experience managing a significant budget
  • Demonstrated experience leading change management projects
  • Highly experienced in identifying and managing risks
  • High level, autonomous decision making 
  • Demonstrated experience managing, coaching and developing staff; managing performance appraisals and setting objectives
Skills and Attributes
  • Tertiary qualifications in a production or engineering discipline (highly desirable) or relevant industry experience
  • Charted member of relevant institution – highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with proven ability to engage with a broad spectrum of people
  • Active team player, participating in the attainment of team goals, encouraging and leading continuous improvement
  • Ability to think widely to solve complex technical problems using innovative solutions

Special Features
  • The incumbent will be required to travel to other QGC sites
