The Organisation
QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on supplying cleaner hydrocarbon energy to growing domestic and international markets.

We are establishing Queensland Curtis LNG, a world-first project to turn reserves of natural coal seam gas in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland into liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a carbon efficient fuel.

QGC, which is wholly owned by the British energy company BG Group, employs more than 4,300 staff and contractors. 
Position Summary
The Lead Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment will provide specific discipline engineering expertise as part of the Operations Engineering support team responsible for the safe operation and integrity of all physical plant and equipment.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all mechanical and associated equipment is operated within the designed parameters and will be part of an engineering support team providing technical assistance and evaluating and approving modifications to existing equipment. The incumbent is also required to liaise with key stakeholders and keep abreast of the company’s infrastructure development activities ensuring an understanding of future engineering and operational requirements. 
Key Accountabilities
Core Accountabilities

Position Specific• Establish and maintain plant and equipment design procedures and confirm compliance
• Lead Engineer for all Rotating Equipment related changes and provide discipline specific expertise into QGC Management of Change process
• Provide discipline technical advice to QGC’s HSSE teams
• Write standards for Rotating Equipment for use across the wider QGC operation
• Development of new QGC specific procedures and operating practices and assure compliance or prepare dispensation requests against BG standards.
• Maintain design bases for application by internal and external staff to enhance Infrastructure Maintenance and Asset Integrity
• Ensure engineering compliance on QGC operations (e.g., JV requirements, permits, legislative approvals)
• Participate in operations interfaces across projects and multi-disciplines during FEED, detailed design and construction
• Contribute to post-implementation reviews of infrastructure development
• Evaluate and review mechanical engineering specifications for implementation by internal and external project staff
• Develop work programs and budgets for operational activities
• Regularly meet with field personnel and review field operations and mechanical activities
• Monitor QGC and sub-contractor operations for compliance with governmental requirements and JV agreements
• Monitor and make recommendations on technology advances in QGC’s present operations and future developments
• Assist Maintenance and Integrity Managers to construct and deliver programs to develop or enhance the Integrity and availability of existing QGC facilities
• Participate in production and maintenance reviews and asset optimisation processes
• Conduct engineering research, modifications and provide technical reports as required
• Assist with budget forecasts and work within allocated budgets
• Maintain relationships with BGA UK Group Technical Authorities and represent QGC at a global level on any group initiatives

People Management• Mentor, coach and lead reports
• The incumbent must adhere to the annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed
• Verifiable record in a Mechanical Engineering role ideally involving the operation & maintenance of gas gathering and/or gas compression systems
• Verifiable performance and delivery in positions of technical authority
• Experienced in oversight of technical staff and the ability to lead a team
• Demonstrated experience in leading and working with contractors to deliver technical requirements
• Familiar with a wide range of mechanical integrity management processes such as Reliability Centred Maintenance and Root Cause analysis
• Experience in a mechanical operations environment and in maintaining associated mechanical systems
• Highly effective contractor liaison and negotiation skills
• Proven experience in the development of engineering policies/procedures
• Experience with Permit to Work (PTW) systems
• Experience with, and commitment to, engineering systems, procedures & quality assurance
• Demonstrated leadership with field safety management and commitment to safety
• Experience in approving safe operating procedures
• Experience of working within a controlled change management culture to ensure that any changes are fully assessed and approved
• Expert user of their discipline software
• Able to apply company and industry standards and skilled in the application of functional assurance processes
• Experience of evaluating and advising on non invasive maintenance strategies and interpretation of condition based monitoring data

Knowledge, Languages
 
• Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and relevant experience in field gas plant / gas pipeline engineering
 
Skills and Attributes
 
• Chartered member of relevant engineering institution
• Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ)
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Able to constructively challenge others and negotiate successfully with internal peers, partners and contractors to positively influence decisions and improve ways of working
• High level computing skills – Microsoft Office, PLC and engineering maintenance systems for plant and equipment
• High level of analytical and problem solving skills

• Strong management and supervisory skills
• High level interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate with other core business areas to provide an engineering service that ensures asset integrity and longevity of plant & equipment

• Ability to focus on the key operational issues and prioritise accordingly
 
Special Features
 
• The position is based in Brisbane, with regular travel to other QGC sites
