Bioversity International Development Officer


Located in Bioversity’s Headquarters near Rome, under the supervision of the Head of Development, and working as part of a small and dynamic team, the Development Officer will provide high quality and creative support in the following areas:
Purpose of Role

Bioversity International has an ambitious new strategy to increase incoming resources from a range of donors and partners, and this role will provide vital temporary cover during a pivotal time in the Institute’s growth.

Key responsibilities

More specifically, the Development Officer will:

Fundraising and donor relations
• Identify public/government funding opportunities worldwide, searching for appropriate funding opportunities and calls, reviewing and filtering these in close collaboration with Grants Office Manager and with the support of the RMU Fundraising Job Trainee.
• Create and administer alerts and a pipeline of such opportunities, and communicate this to Bioversity Staff in a dynamic and effective manner using existing mechanisms.
• For public/government opportunities, assist proposal authors by furnishing institutional information, for completing proposal applications, and maintain institutional codes, passwords, and similar information.
• Act as a fundraising account steward for a portfolio of private philanthropy donors (foundations and high net worth individuals) for the Commodities and the Conservation & Availability Programmes; actively fundraising for new income, keeping information systems up to date and providing seamless input, support and advice to Programme Teams.

Donor intelligence and information systems
• Collate and issue a weekly communication to key Bioversity staff containing all funding opportunities, with RMU colleagues receive and process feedback.
• Maintain donor intelligence services, including donor profiles, general donor templates, and donor cultivation plans for selected private philanthropy donors, in coordination with the Development Manager for private philanthropy, and in coordination with the Grants Office Manager for public sector donors.
• Lodge screened donor calls in the Bioversity International Grants Database and share via the Bioversity Intranet.
• Maintain metrics and tracking systems and prepare reports for the Head of Development, SMT and Board of Trustees.
• Prepare donor briefs as required for the Head of Development and Director General.
• Keep Raisers Edge data base and other information systems up to date and in effective use.
• Write concepts, pitches, proposals and reports for donors.

Other
• Organize and prepare for meetings with donors for with the Head of Development.
• Prepare a range of donor communications materials, with the Communications Unit.
• Support the administration of Bioversity UK and Bioversity Inc USA.
• Provide any other donor relations support as required.
