Medical Teams International Director, Asia


This field-based position contributes to the vision and mission of the organization and is responsible for managing the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Asia regional strategic plan and quality programs. Key responsibilities include supervising, managing and developing regional field staff, financial resources, partnerships and fund raising efforts for achievement of the strategic plans of Medical Teams International and the Asia region. Report on and represent Medical Teams International's Asia regional programs with support from the HQ-based Asia Program Managers. Actively participate as part of MTI and Program Director Leadership teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the development and oversee the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the three year Asia regional strategic plan and country strategic plans, including identification of priority countries, programs, teams, GIK, and fundraising strategy.
Lead the management planning and decision making for regional direction.
Work with field leadership team and staff to ensure vision alignment and supervise implementation of all regional programs for planned results.
Develop thorough knowledge of region, partners and programs.
Give guidance to the Asia Program Managers to support regional activities.
Work with colleagues to identify greatest health needs in the region; assist in designing projects that will address priority needs in close collaboration with the Asia Health Advisor and HQ Program Quality and Evaluation staff.
Develop regional disaster assessment and response capacity of MTI country program staff in collaboration with Emergency Relief and Security staff.
Collaborate with Emergency Relief staff in regional relief operations.
Develop annual work plans in consultation with Country Directors/Managers.
Develop, monitor, and assess partnership development and capacity building in coordination with the Asia Program Managers.
Facilitate cross-regional networking between partners and other NGOs.
Lead and support the effective use of volunteers in MTI and partner programs.
Review monthly country reports as prepared by the Country Directors/Managers, and/or partners.
Submit quarterly reports on regional progress and outcomes.
Oversee budget planning and review financial reports in collaboration with the Asia Program Managers,Country Directors/Managers, and/or partners.
Prepare the region’s budget, monitor expenditures, keep HQ leadership informed about variances and recommend plans to address variances.
Ensure accountability and effective stewardship of all financial resources.
Support department budget planning.
Identify and access local funding opportunities as well as institutional fundraising such as USAID to support regional and country strategic plans.
Assist in developing and managing grant-funding proposals in collaboration with the Asia Program Managers, Program Quality and Evaluation staff and Marketing and Development.
Manage HQ Asia Managers, Country Directors/Managers/Advisors in Asia
Review well-defined job descriptions and annual performance goals and plans
Complete annual performance appraisals
Manage and develop regional field leadership team
Oversee program activities and facilitate communications and cross-learning among the regions.
Work with HQ and regional leadership to effectively recruit and retain regional staff.
Assess and ensure adequacy of staffing strategies to support quality projects.
Meet or consult regularly with direct reports; mentor and support the development of the regional leadership team.
Serve as agency liaison and advocate for the region’s programs internally and externally.
Visit priority countries in the region to cultivate and develop partnerships, network with donors, assess potential new partners, and represent MTI to appropriate government officials and other organizations. Represent and communicate the work of MTI and ensure appropriate networking and linkages with other health agencies, practitioners, like-minded agencies and forums within the Asia region.
Provide excellent customer service in all contacts with applicants, volunteers, colleagues and the general public.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
M.A. in relevant field or equivalent combination of academic preparation and field management experience most likely obtained by serving as a Country Director in at least 2 settings.
Minimum 5-8 years progressively responsible leadership experience in international relief and development with at least 2 years’ experience working in Asia.
Demonstrated success acquiring resources for relief and development programs.
Experience leading programs funded by institutional donors
Preferred:
Previous successful leadership experience with faith-based NGO.
Experience working in partnerships and/or with volunteers.
Valid passport
Demonstrated leadership and management skills in strategic planning, achieving results, coordinating and supporting a diverse team, mentoring, and staff development.
Demonstrated understanding of international humanitarian issues and organizations, and the social development role of Christian groups and churches.
Knowledgeable about and able to advocate for region, programs, and Agency.
Commitment to Medical Teams International’s vision and mission statements.
Ability to prepare and manage budgets, reports, project proposals and contracts.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in teams.

Available and willing to travel internationally for extended periods.
