The PEMSEA Resource Facility seeks a highly qualified Executive Director.
PEMSEA is an international organization specializing in integrated coastal and ocean governance for the Seas of East Asia. It is a partnership arrangement comprised of 11 Country Partners and 20 Non-Country Partners with a collective commitment to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA). The SDS-SEA represents a consensus among Partners on the shared vision, objectives and action programs of PEMSEA for sustainable development of the Seas of East Asia. PEMSEA is taking on the new economic challenges and opportunities of the Rio+20 towards a green economy by taking advantage of the policy and management fundamentals established through the implementation of the SDS-SEA and ICM programs. PEMSEA also works closely with educational institutions, Regional Centers of Excellence and ICM Learning Centers to build a critical mass of broad-based, trained and educated coastal and ocean managers to undertake the enormous tasks in the region.
PEMSEA requires an individual who can provide the necessary leadership for the smooth and effective operation of the organization as a regional coordinating mechanism for the implementation of the SDS-SEA. The candidate should have at least 10 years experience at a senior managerial level in a government or nongovernmental organization, or senior management in an international or UN organization, with proven management capacity, interpersonal skills and leadership qualities. The candidate should also demonstrate capacity in national, regional and international relations and strong knowledge of environmental and sustainable development issues in the region. A Master’s degree, or equivalent, in law, natural or social sciences or other fields related to the management of coastal and marine environment and natural resources is required. Candidates with doctorate degrees will be considered favorably.
The position is open to all qualified candidates. Recruitment will be through a competitive process. Preference will be given to qualified nationals from the East Asia region, given equal competencies and related requirements identified in the Terms of Reference.
