DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a temporary Associate to provide administrative and clerical assistance to the Development Operations Unit. This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and also supports other members of the Development Operations Unit.
Responsibilities:
Donor Services
1. Institute a system for handling online and offline failed payments and payments at risk of failing;
2. Analyze and share data related to calls to HRW’s call center;
3. Carry out duplicate processing in Kintera Sphere;
4. Correspond with donors and prospects to update their contact details;
5. Process and track online gifts, sustainer gifts, matching gifts and general gifts;
6. Acknowledge gifts when required;
7. Fulfill membership requests;
8. Process refunds; and
9. Update and maintain a direct marketing list.
Donor/Prospect Database
1. Assist in global updates to the Raiser’s Edge (“RE”) database with regards to addresses, phone types, and organizational records;
2. Write and run audit queries to maintain RE accuracy;
3. Merge duplicate RE records;
4. Update and maintain documentation;
5. Update donor acknowledgement letters for the direct marketing program;
6. Ensure data consistency between Raiser’s Edge and Kintera Sphere with regards to addresses, phones, emails, and opt-out/in preferences;
7. Pull and distribute Sphere payment reports for all currencies.
Administration
1. Schedule internal and external meetings, book conference lines and rooms for meetings;
2. Arrange travel, prepare expense reports, filing, printing, preparing mailings, and other administrative duties;
3. Retrieve and respond to internal and external requests for information;
4. Oversee the recruiting, hiring, and training of interns as necessary; and
5. Carry out other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor’s degree, preferably in international relations, journalism, social sciences or computer sciences is desirable.
Experience:Minimum 1 year of relevant, full-time work experience is highly desirable.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
1. Experience with Raiser’s Edge and donor databases is required.
2. Strongcustomer service and interpersonal skills are required.
3. Excellent written communication skills in English are required.
4. Strong organizational skills are required.
5. Meticulous attention to detail is required.
6. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
7. Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team is required.
8. Prior office/administration experience is highly desirable.
Other: Applicants for this position must possess current US work authorization valid for the duration of the contract.
Contract Duration: Six-month contract.
Salary and Benefits: Annualized salary range starts at $41,519. Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance, a retirement savings plan and twenty (20) days vacation per year (pro rata).
