The Organisation
QGC is a leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on supplying cleaner hydrocarbon energy to growing domestic and international markets.

We are establishing Queensland Curtis LNG, a world-first project to turn reserves of natural coal seam gas in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland into liquefied natural gas (LNG) – a carbon efficient fuel.

QGC, which is wholly owned by the British energy company BG Group, employs more than 4,300 staff and contractors. 
Position Summary
The position will be based in Chinchilla with scope of work across all QGC field telecommunications assets.

Primary activities will involve qualifying the telecommunications systems integrity and readiness for production operations traffic prior to asset handover from the QCLNG project to QGC Operations at each project delivery phase.

The incumbent will provide start-up and commissioning assistance where required and undertake the execution and coordination of telecommunications system maintenance with relevant contractors where required

The incumbent shall be responsible for ongoing field maintenance diagnosis, fault response, investigation and management of telecommunications infrastructure. This will include ensuring network systems are fully integrated into existing QGC networks, ensuring statutory and regulatory requirements and licensing are met and telecommunications systems and processes are fit for purpose for QGC Upstream Production Operations.
Key Accountabilities
Position Specific
 
• Provide discipline technical support to the Operations Interface field team during facility commissioning and start-up
• Manage software changes associated with QGC Management of Change (MoC) processes
• Review and contribute to Dynamic Commissioning Procedures (DCP’s)
• Review and assist with the development of telecommunications specific Inspection and Test Record (ITR) template documents
• Review project design documentation and completions processes to ensure conformance to Operations Readiness Processes (ORP)
• Provide the technical interface between field and office based operations technical teams
• Report and coordinate rectification of telecommunications related issues identified during the commissioning and start-up period
• Conduct site acceptance testing of telecommunications systems where required
• Consultation with vendors regarding technical issues.
• Provides technical support to operations, maintenance & pre-commissioning teams.
• Act as custodian for telecommunications systems during the project transition period (from projects to operations)
• Assist with the commissioning and integration of microwave, TETRA, well-head and other radio systems hardware and software and associated communication towers.
• Assist with the commissioning and integration of fibre optic and copper cabling systems.
• Assist with the commissioning and integration of CCTV, PAGA, Access Control and Intrusion Detection systems hardware and software.
• Assist with the commissioning and integration of telecommunications power supplies.
• Assist with the commissioning and integration of telecommunications equipment buildings.
People Management
 
• The incumbent must adhere to the annual HR cycle and meet deadlines within the appropriate timeframes.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed
 
• Significant post graduate experience in a field based engineering role related to telecommunications in a hydrocarbons environment, with particular experience with fibre optic cables, radio systems and other oil & gas telecommunications systems.
• Have deployed network management systems including fault diagnostics systems using protocols such as SNMP.
• Has worked with the regulatory authorities in charge of radio and telecommunications systems within Queensland.
• Hazardous Area experience (flammable substances environment).
• Familiar with Work permit and industrial control of work processes.
 
Knowledge, Languages, Skills and Attributes
• Demonstrated history in a similar technical commissioning and deployment role involving the large scale multi-network telecommunications networks.
• Relevant degree qualifications with RPEQ preferred.
• In depth understanding of fibre optic cabling and installation including the laying, termination and jointing, and testing of fibre optic cables.
• In depth understanding of radio systems including digital microwave, Tetra, UHF radio systems and installation practices. Have a good understanding of radio propagation.
• Sound understanding of TCP-IP network architecture, switching and routing protocols, and VPNs.
• Knowledge of hazardous area restrictions and requirements Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards including but not limited to safety standards, Radio Standards in Australia and awareness of AS3000 electrical wiring rules.
• Ability to accept responsibility and work independently unsupervised.
• Able to identify, analyze and solve problems.
 
Special Features
 
• The role will be based in Brisbane initially and then move to site rotation as required to meet commissioning milestones
• The position will work a 15 / 13 day back to back / fly-in/ fly-out roster when full time commissioning /operation commences
• Ability to undertake other occasional domestic travel is required
