The Organisation
BG Trinidad & Tobago a major producing asset for BG Group, contributing some 27mmboe production per year with a strategic objective to increase this to 50mmboe per year by 2020. BG Group supplies gas to the domestic market and to Atlantic LNG with around two thirds of production being exported as LNG and the remainder going to the domestic market.

 
Key Accountabilities
The incumbent will support and provide advice on all relevant aspects of drilling fluids, completions fluids and waste management processes to the Well Engineering team. This mainly entails, but is not limited to planning and operational support, engineering of drilling, completion and work over fluids, solids control, waste treatment and disposal in order to optimize the well fluids and thereby the drilling process to minimize total well life cycle cost.

The Fluids Advisor shall be responsible for:

• Ensuring that the chemicals used in drilling fluids are approved and as governed local statutory regulations.

• Provide guidance and support to the Environmental group with the use, treatment and disposal of drilling, workover and completion fluids.

• Compiling environmental data for oil on cuttings retention and other pertinent data required as part of permitting, regulatory and statutory requirements.

• Lend support in oil spill contingency management and drilling fluids auditing/permitting requirements.

• Adhering to Company’s contractor management guidelines for the management of drilling fluids services.

• Compliance with local and international regulations with emphasis on safety, environmental compliance and industry best practice.

• The provision of expert technical advice in the design, maintenance, recycling and disposal of drilling, completion and work over fluids and the interaction of these fluids with drilling performance, formation rock (impairment), completion equipment, well clean-up and fluid treatment facilities.

• Preparation of fluids programs which will involve review of offset fluid reviews, fluid recommendations, risk assessments, engineering analysis including hydraulics, hole cleaning, and hole displacement.

• Coordination with cementing advisors/ subject matter experts (SME) in order to assist with optimization of all cement jobs.

• Participation in well challenge sessions, drill well on paper (DWOP), well reviews, etc.

• Safe and cost effective approach to all activities related to the well fluids (minimize total well life cycle cost) with a view of safety and environment.
• Setting key performance indicators (KPI) in conjunction with suppliers prior to well or interval commencing and review at end, seeking improvements over the term of the contract.

• Monitoring daily product usage and cost estimation of drilling and completions fluids, performance of solids control and filtration equipment, waste generation and disposal.

• Verification and technical input in invoice processing.

• Chemical reconciliation of fluids that were invoiced against items received, items used, items returned and items credited, as well as identifying variations.

• Act as a liaison between Company and the incumbent fluids representative from service provider.

• Conduct period audits of service provider to ensure compliance to standards and processes.

• Screening and identification of new technologies with a view of enhancing safety, environmental compliance, operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Required Experience
• Significant drilling and completions experience (including experience working in the Operator’s office) is fundamental to the position with preference given to international experience. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience on floating drilling rigs and HTHP environment.

• Drilling Fluids working experience in environmentally sensitive areas or areas where there are stringent environmental regulations on the handling of drilling, completion and workover fluids. Experience in operating in a zero discharge environment will be an advantage.

• Working with a range of fluid types (Water Based, Synthetic Based and Completion fluids.

• Operation of solids control and filtration equipment for optimum performance, as well as waste management.

• Work experience with contractors and operators with a track record in building relationships in multi-cultural work groups.
